We love it when we hear these words after someone takes their first shower in a while because we know we are playing a small part in honoring the Imago Dei of our neighbors. Imago Dei is Latin for Image of God. This is where our compassion is rooted at Friends of the Carpenter. As image bearers of God we believe that everyone is afforded the right to human dignity. In our corner of the world we practice that by providing free showers, laundry and a safe space to stay during the day for our neighbors that are without shelter. Want to help more of our friends feel human again? This year the theme for our Midweek Lenten services will be based on Jesus’ “Farewell Discourse” found in John 14-17. In these chapters, Jesus gives his disciples some final words to prepare them for his departure and then prays for them.

The schedule for Soup Suppers and Midweek worship are, 5:30 PM Soup Supper and 6:30 PM Service that begin on February 25th. The Midweek services will be available in person or by our phone patch. They will not be available by livestream.

For the Sundays in Lent, we will deviate from the Narrative Lectionary so we can hear from as much of John’s gospel as possible. We will read some of Jesus’s “I Am” statements in which he tells us that he is the Bread of Life, the Light of the World, the Good Shepherd, and others. May this season guide us into deeper relationship with God through the Word, Jesus Christ.
