I love how simple this is. God spoke, and light came into the darkness.

That is the power of our God. He did not struggle. He did not need anything else. He simply spoke, and darkness had to give way to light.

The same God who spoke light into creation is the God we trust today. When life feels dark, confusing, or heavy, He is still able to bring light where we cannot see a way forward.

And ultimately, that light points us to Jesus. We were lost in the darkness of sin, but Christ came to give us life and lead us into the light.

Whatever you are facing today, remember this—darkness has never been greater than the light of God.

Day 2 | Mission Illinois Week of Prayer

Today we’re praying for older kids and teens—that they would develop an identity deeply rooted in Christ through IBSA Next Gen events, and begin using their gifts and talents to serve Jesus and his church now as they grow into future leaders.

Join us throughout the Mission Illinois Week of Prayer as we pray for gospel work happening across our state.

Sometimes people are afraid to come to Jesus because they think, “I need to get my life together first.” They think following Christ means working harder, fixing themselves, and somehow becoming good enough for God.

But that is not the truth of the Gospel.

We come to Jesus broken. We come dead in our sins. We come unable to save ourselves. And He is the One who gives us new life. He forgives us, changes us, puts us back together, and begins His good work in us.

Yes, following Christ leads to good works—but those works are not how we earn salvation, nor do they require our wisdom or strength. They are what Jesus begins producing through us after He saves us. We simply follow Him, surrender to Him, and allow Him to work through us for His glory.

Following Christ is not about trying harder to be good. It is about letting Jesus change us and work through us.

So come to Him as you are. You do not have to clean yourself up first. Come broken. Come tired. Come sinful. Come to Jesus—and find rest in Him. He will do the work.

We were never meant to walk this life alone.

There are times when someone beside us is hurting, struggling, grieving, or simply carrying more than they can handle by themselves. Paul tells us not to stand at a distance and watch. We are to step in, pray with them, encourage them, help where we can, and carry part of that weight with them.

That is what Christ-like love looks like. Sometimes bearing a burden means giving practical help. Sometimes it means listening. Sometimes it means gently helping someone back up when they have fallen. It is not about fixing everything for them—it is about refusing to let them carry it alone.

We all need that kind of grace at some point. May God help us be the kind of people who notice when someone is struggling and are willing to come alongside them. That is part of what it means to love like Christ.
