We are a warm, vibrant and inclusive community enriching Jewish life since 1917. Our past is rich in decades, personalities, and stories.

Congregation Kehillath Israel’s commitments to education, Zionism, and Jewish tradition have thrived for more than 90 years, ever since KI was established as the first Brookline synagogue in 1917. We are proud of the more than 60 rabbis and professional educators that have grown up in our community over the years. We strive to continue to strengthen our bond with Israel, provide first-rate learning experiences, and enable congregants from all backgrounds to experience the holiness of prayer. KI’s role as a bedrock of the Boston Jewish community has led us to the forefront of religious egalitarianism – with a strong commitment to women’s full participation in all of our services. Our historic position enables us to communally host many events and lectures of timely concern to the wider region. Our present brims with content, connections, and cause. We welcome new faces and seasoned ones; people of all ages, backgrounds, genders, and orientations; and encourage everyone to join us and lend your willing heart and hands to scripting our future.

PLANTING IN MEMORY, GROWING IN HOPE

On October 18th, local scouts installed phase two of the October 7th Memorial Garden at KI. Over two planting events, the scouts planted 16 shrubs, 85 perennials, and 500 spring-blooming bulbs. The scouts were led by KI's Daphne Spunt for her Eagle Scout project. Many of the plants were selected to attract pollinators. The community is grateful to Daphne, her family, and the scouts for funding and building a garden that will be a place of reflection, healing, and new life.

Another special week of KI Religious School (KIRS) is in the books!

Our KIRS students are exploring Middot (Jewish values), discovering how chesed (loving-kindness) helps us care for others and how gevurah (boundaries and healthy limits) helps us care for ourselves. Through hands-on art projects and meaningful learning, students are bringing these timeless Jewish values to life in creative, personal ways.

Moments We Love: Welcoming Shabbat with Hazzan Ariel Wyner!🎶

Each week, Hazzan Ariel joins our preschool for Shabbat songs, bringing music, joy, and a special sense of community to our kiddos. This past Friday, our toddler classes took advantage of the beautiful fall weather and welcomed Shabbat outdoors on the playground. 💖

Last night, our Sukkah was packed with young professionals coming together to celebrate the holiday, enjoy delicious c***r, and connect with one another.

Looking for a fresh, creative way to connect with the weekly parsha? 📜✨ Join our welcoming, heimish Torah Doodles group led by KI member and community leader Leann Shamash on Tuesday mornings at 9:00 AM via Zoom!

We'll be kicking off our fourth year on October 6 as we begin the cycle again with Parshat Beresh*t! We dive into close readings of the text and explore its themes through discussion, drawing, and poetry. Absolutely no art or writing background (or perceived talent) is required to jump right in!

🗓️ When: Tuesday mornings at 9:00 AM (Starting October 6, but OK to join any Tuesday.

💻 Where: Zoom (See KI's homepage listings)

🎨 What to bring: A notebook, a sketchpad, or any art supplies you have on hand!
