On Sunday, February 15, 2026 at 9:15am Gethsemane will be hosting a unique worship experience!

Pastor Frank Janzow, who frequently leads worship at Gethsemane (along with his wife, Deaconess Jan Janzow), will bring to Gethsemane "Rise Up! A Jazz Liturgy of Hope". Along with Pastor Frank and Deaconess Jan, 8 additional musicians will lead worship, as we commemorate the Feast of the Transfiguration.

From Pastor Frank:

" Music is the heart language of the Church. It expresses faith in ways that stick, and it unites us in a shared beauty, passion, and praise. In retirement I’ve had more time to explore the gift of music in life and in church. Jazz, I’ve found, is filled with possibilities. Its unique chords – major and minor fifths, sevenths, elevenths, thirteenths, and flat or sharp fives – create a sense of surprise and intrigue. And its rhythms draw you in, releasing excitement in the community. Rise Up! includes interesting jazz chord progressions, in various rhythms – one piece in 9/8. The lyrics are new, or are fresh versions of a couple familiar hymns. The tunes should feel both fascinating and singable. Why do I call it a “Liturgy of Hope”? Because the music and lyrics excite in us anew the living hope we share in Jesus, the risen Christ. When spirits grow weary from troubles and are cast down from bearing heavy loads, jazz that expresses the gospel lifts and strengthens us, calling our spirits to rise up again in the God of hope whose promises never fail."

Invite family and friends to join us, as we experience "Rise Up!" and celebrate a mini Mardi Gras before entering the season of Lent!
