A mother and daughter celebrate the God Is Grace Africa scholarship awarded for this year's school term. 15 students received scholarships this year because of our Christmas Catalog donors! We are very grateful as our women in God Is Grace Africa work so hard to provide education for their children.
There are many challenges for young female students as they grow and mature. Many times they are set aside to sit at home, choosing to educate the males over the females since some believe that young women "will just get pregnant and never use their educations." God Is Grace Africa works hard to express the value of women in their homes and workplace. We have discovered that another challenge to face is the young women's monthly cycle. When a home is struggling to feed a family and pay rent, sanitary pads are just not available. Young women end up staying at home and missing much school during their cycle time. Our answer has been to provide young women with washable feminine pads so they can go to school. This year we have hired inmates at the prison to make these pads. Thanks to the ministry called Small Beginnings, the inmates were taught to make these washable pads. God Is Grace Africa chose to hire the inmates to make tĥem rather than our sewing classes since we want to support and help provide income for the inmates. Which leads to our next need.
In order to wear the pads, one needs underwear! I am sure people have wondered why we have underwear on our Amazon wishlist, but this is it! By providing underwear, you will help some of our female students stay in school and provide them with confidence that they were never afforded before.
