My friend Michelle had a race this morning. She finished 1st in her age group — and it didn't happen by accident. She had a goal, a training plan, and good people around her.
That's the Christian life too. We keep the end in mind, work with purpose, grow in faith. But purpose alone isn't enough to sustain us. The Christian life was never meant to be a joyless march of duty and discipline.
Jesus Himself modeled that. He was serious about truth — and He used humor, irony, and vivid imagery to make it stick. A camel through a needle. A log in your eye. Real, memorable, sometimes funny.
So as you run your race this week: enjoy the experience. Laugh a little. Encourage the people around you. Live in a way that others see not just discipline — but joy.
Maybe that's the part that makes them want to know the One you're following.
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters." — Colossians 3:23
This week's Runner's Church devotional, *Run the Race, Enjoy the Journey*, is live now.
Run the Race, Enjoy the Journey — a Runner's Church devotional on Colossians 3:23, working heartily for the Lord, and why the Christian life was never meant to be a joyless march.
