There is a beautiful serenity, a gentle and quiet joy in each of you, as you recognize what you have received, the grace and mercy of Jesus, and you desire with loving hearts to share that same with the people of God."

We're so proud of our 5 newest priests who took their vows in front of friends and family on May 17th.

Congratulations to
Rev. Giris Azize
Rev. Stephen Baruffi
Rev. Javier Padilla
Rev. Diego Peña Rincon
Rev. Jonathon Saniuk

And thank you for your generous support of the Catholic Appeal, which helps parishes to create vibrant communities to welcome new priests and parishioners alike.

Nothing says “Together We are One” quite like serving together! Last week, Archbishop Henning and staff members from the Pastoral Center traveled to two parishes (Incarnation of the Lord Jesus Christ in Melrose and Most Blessed Sacrament in Wakefield) to put some “Spring” in their step by mulching, dusting, and helping in any way needed.

A favorite annual tradition, Service Week allows our Pastoral Center team an opportunity to share time together outside the office and help our parishes with some spring cleaning. It’s a win-win!

Together We are One!

Together we can make a difference in the lives of our friends and neighbors. Together We Are One.

This Sunday is the Ordination to the Priesthood. But before that blessed event, we still need to introduce you to Deacon Javier Padilla.

Deacon Padilla first felt the call to the priesthood at the World Youth Day 2016 in Krakow, Poland. Discover how that moment shaped the rest of his life here:

"[T]hat's the exciting part about the priesthood, to see that God is preparing me for this mission to be as an instrument to help him reach out to people."

Deacon Diego Pena has felt the call to religious life since he was 16. Discover how he understands his mission as a priest here: https://www.thebostonpilot.com/article.php?ID=202478

On this special Week of Appreciation for teachers, we celebrate all those who have chosen education not just as a profession but as a vocation. Thank you to all our Catholic school educators who nurture the whole child --mind, body, and soul--through the lens of faith.

"[Fr. Joe White] gave me great hope, courage, encouragement, and helped me to realize that I could walk this path, and I can do this, and find strength in God. And he made all the difference in my life."

Your gift to the Catholic Appeal supports ministries like the Archdiocesan Addiction Recovery Pastoral Support Services (AARPSS), which in turn supports some of the most vulnerable in our community.

Through AARPSS we are able to extend a helping and loving hand to those suffering from addiction and their loved ones, providing hope in times of desperation.

"I think my experience can really help a lot of parishioners going through hard times with marriage or life, losing children, miscarriages. And I think that God has a plan that is beyond my understanding, but I think that's why I'm here."

Deacon Giris Azize's journey to the priesthood has given him a rich experience of both life's joys and sorrows. Read about it in "The Pilot" here: https://www.thebostonpilot.com/article.php?ID=202423

"We view this as a human right, that we have a moral obligation to ensure that everyone has a safe place to call home. And if we're not doing what we can to meet the needs of Massachusetts residents, the housing crisis is only going to get worse."

According to the Boston Foundation the estimated number of individuals experiencing homelessness in the greater Boston area was 19,652, a 38% increase since 2014.

In response to this significant need, the Planning Office for Urban Affairs (POUA), the housing ministry of the Archdiocese of Boston, has increased the number of new developments built to meet as much as the demand for housing as possible.

Learn more about POUA's essential work in "The Pilot" here: https://www.thebostonpilot.com/article.php?ID=202421

Your donation to the Catholic Appeal supports POUA as it works with cities, municipalities, and non-profits to ensure our community's most vulnerable have a dry, warm, and safe place to call home.
