News has reached us of the passing of Melba Crocker. Mrs. Melba was our oldest living member since March of this year, and had been a fixture and staunch supporter of Belews Chapel since the 1950s. We will share her arrangements here as they are available.

Sunday, May 10, 2026, is Decoration Day at Belews Chapel Cemetery. We will have our traditional short remembrance service at 10:30 a.m. in the cemetery, weather permitting. We will honor the burials over the past year, Jo McCartney and Jewell Hayes. Please join us for this decades-old tradition.

Jewell Marie Arnold Hayes
September 16, 1929 — March 3, 2026
Bradford, TN
Funeral services for Mrs. Jewell Marie Hayes, age 96, will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Belew’s Chapel Church with burial to follow in Belew’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time. All services will be held at the church.

Mrs. Hayes was born in Gibson County on September 16, 1929, to the late John Ross and Buna Bradford Arnold. She passed away on March 3, 2026, in Bradford, TN, surrounded by those who loved her dearly.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Thurman Hayes.

She is survived by one son, Don (Amee) Hayes of Bradford; one daughter, Janice Akin of Union City; two sisters, Louise Warren and Shelba Allen of Bradford; seven grandchildren; Amy (Matt) McLean, Jenny (Hunter) Clement, Anderson Hayes, Tommy (Angie) Akin, Brian Akin, Will (Madison) Northcutt, and Ross Northcutt; ten great-grandchildren, Emma McLean, Ava Belle Clement, Lily Clement, Gray Northcutt, Whitney Ikemire, Kayla (Matt) Wilson, Nick (Mikaela) Akin, Ali Kate Akin, Bradley Akin, and Ryan Humphries; and six great great-grandchildren, Hunter Ikemire, Brett Ikemire, Kaylei Ikemire, Lucas Wilson, Mattie Wilson, and Rylan Humphries.

Hunt Funeral Home of Bradford is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jewell Hayes has gone on to her reward as of this morning. Please be in prayer for her family. She served as a a preacher's wife to the late Bro. Thurman Hayes until his passing 30 years ago, and she was a steadfast member of Belews Chapel for many, many decades. She was also our oldest living member. Arrangements will be posted as soon as they are complete.
