The event is set for December 12! A delicious pancake breakfast will be served, and individuals and families will receive Aldi gift cards for their grocery needs. Children will receive Walmart gift cards, so they may select a Christmas gift of their choice.
The Deacons are asking you to consider donating to help with the cost of the gift cards and breakfast supplies. Early donations are encouraged as it helps the Deacons set the budget for the event. If you would like to donate, please write a check payable to the First Presbyterian Church and on the memo line write “Deacons’ Xmas.” A donation can also be made through Venmo and PayPal.

500 years ago you would’ve struggled to find someone who had no faith in something otherworldly, divine, or otherwise sublime. 500 years later, every faith has to justify its existence. Charles Taylor has named this phenomenon “The Secular Age” (which is the name of his waaaay too long book). Whatever the reason or reasons for these changes over the last few centuries, we still must accept that most people will find your belief completely unbelievable and, in fact, they find the very concept of belief completely unbelievable. Aside from judgment (which both of our passages for today express toward the unbelieving), what other options are there for this in this post-Christian world with our unbelievable belief?

Did you find some old electronics when you gathered items for the rummage sale? Here's your chance to make some more space in your home. Our annual electronics recycling event is coming up on Saturday, September 19 from 9 am to 1 pm in the parking lot of the Senior Center. You can bring most items that have a cord - computers, flat screen tv's or monitors, small appliances, printers, cables, phones, vcr or dvd players, and even batteries. There's more information in the flyer, also in this newsletter. Note that our partner AIM Ecycling has had to begin charging for the ecycling of flat screen TV's, so we need to pass that cost along. We are pleased to be working with BGSU Office of Sustainability again this year, along with the Senior Center, AIM, and Wood County Solid Waste Management.
