Reverend James Edward Auth, a priest of the Diocese of Toledo for sixty-five years, died peacefully on August 6, 2026, after several days in hospice care in Perrysburg, Ohio. He was 90.

The Diocese of Toledo is pleased to announce that Bishop Daniel E. Thomas has accepted Aaron Reichert as a seminarian for the diocese.

Aaron is a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Parish in Van Wert and a graduate of Van Wert High School. He recently completed his freshman year at Trine University, where he studied civil engineering.

This fall, Aaron will begin the propaedeutic stage of priestly formation at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus. The propaedeutic stage provides new seminarians with a dedicated period of prayer, discernment, community life and preparation before beginning their formal philosophical studies.

Please join us in congratulating Aaron and praying for him as he begins this new chapter of discernment and formation. We also ask the faithful to continue praying for all of the Diocese of Toledo’s seminarians as they complete their summer assignments and prepare to return to seminary.
