Join us this Sunday, September 6th, as our sermon explores the theme of History. We will reflect on our personal history and the story of our faith community—who we are and where we have come from.

Beyond our own stories, we will examine Biblical history and how God uses Moses's life to teach us valuable lessons so we do not repeat past mistakes. We will also touch upon the history of our nation, acknowledging both the good and the bad, as well as the challenging. We hope to see you there!

It’s only Wednesday, but it has already been a challenging week. I spent an entire night without sleep, which made for a very difficult, unproductive next day. It feels a bit like having jet lag mixed with recovering from the flu, and I’ve spent so much time resting that I’m pretty sure I’ve become a permanent fixture of my recliner!

Yet, this experience reminded me that we can always find what we need in God's rest. The anxieties of this world often wear us down, and while our daily chores, duties, and obligations constantly demand our presence, true renewal begins when we surrender our exhaustion to Him.

This Sunday, August 30th, my sermon centers on the theme of Inadequacy. Not meaning that someone is inadequate, but that they feel that way. We forget to rely on God when our strength is failing, and we feel we are not up to the task. We go through the motions and try to be who we are supposed to be. Yet we just have this feeling that our life is all a facade. We feel like an imposter. That is how Moses, Paul, Jeremiah, and Ester felt. But God provides!

This week we visit Exodus for a story of courage. Imagine a Midwife who probably didn't live a privileged life. Her meager existence most likely came from the families of the babies she delivered. She receives an order from the King. In this case, the Pharaoh of Egypt. She is ordered to kill all of the male Hebrew baby boys she delivers. There are two Midwives in this story: Shiphrah and Puah. They decide that they fear God more than Pharaoh. They defy this order and don't end the life of a single child.

Exodus 1:15-21
15 The king of Egypt spoke to two Hebrew midwives named Shiphrah and Puah: 16 “When you are helping the Hebrew women give birth, and you see the baby being born, if it’s a boy, kill him. But if it’s a girl, you can let her live.” 17 Now the two midwives respected God so they didn’t obey the Egyptian king’s order. Instead, they let the baby boys live. 18 So the king of Egypt called the two midwives and said to them, “Why are you doing this? Why are you letting the baby boys live?” 19 The two midwives said to Pharaoh, “Because Hebrew women aren’t like Egyptian women. They’re much stronger and give birth before any midwives can get to them.” 20 So God treated the midwives well, and the people kept on multiplying and became very strong. 21 And because the midwives respected God, God gave them households of their own.
