The Danger of a Hardening Heart

The moment you sense your heart growing hard, run to God and ask for help.
Hebrews 3:7-11

The Hebrew people who left Egypt witnessed God’s power firsthand—the plagues, the parted sea, the pillar of fire. Yet when the time came to claim their promised land, they refused to believe God would give them victory over Canaan’s inhabitants. Despite Joshua and Caleb’s passionate pleas, the people rebelled, inventing justifications for their unbelief.

The Lord’s response was sobering: 40 years of wandering in the desert (Num. 14:33-36). That generation wouldn’t enter the land He had prepared for them. Because this lesson about unbelief and its consequences was so vital, God referenced it again in the New Testament (Heb. 3:7-11). He didn’t want anyone to repeat such a costly mistake.

How does a heart become hardened? It’s a gradual process that begins with selective belief—hearing God’s Word but not fully accepting it as true. This leads to trying to manage one’s affairs without the Lord’s guidance. Over time, the person ignores the conscience or justifies unscriptural choices. Eventually, the heart becomes so resistant that the Spirit’s voice can’t be heard.

If you sense your heart growing hard, there’s hope. Confess your unbelief to the Lord, and ask Him to restore receptivity to His will.

Living Out Our Faith

When sharing our faith, authenticity matters more than eloquence.
1 Peter 1:6-9

True faith is based upon Scripture and embraces its eternal principles. Genuine belief trusts that God is who He says He is and will do everything He has promised. But faith isn't meant to stay hidden-it's to be lived out where others can see it.

How can we share our faith with those around us? Words matter, certainly. We can verbally explain what we believe and why. But our actions often speak even louder. A godly lifestyle often influences people for Christ more effectively than words alone ever could.

Consistency through trials demonstrates the reality of our faith. When difficulties come, the way we respond tells others whether we truly trust God. As we persevere visibly through hardship, what we're sharing is more valuable than gold or silver.

Prayer is another powerful way to influence others. When we bring someone before the throne of the Almighty, we're doing eternal work in those quiet moments. And we're learning for ourselves that God is faithful-even when circumstances look impossible (Heb. 4:16).

Consider different ways you can live out your faith. And ask God for the wisdom to know where and how to share the good news of Jesus.

How to Pass Down Our Faith

Do you know someone who needs the hope your testimony could bring?
Deuteronomy 4:9-10

Being a role model of faith in Jesus Christ is one of the most valuable gifts we can offer our family and friends. Placing trust in the Savior is something each person must decide for himself, but we can share the biblical truths that have shaped our own walk with God. Consider these foundational truths that have sustained you.

Salvation is found only in Jesus (Acts 4:12). The most important relationship we'll ever have is with the Lord. As you continually experience His grace, your example will reflect Him to others.

Everything that exists was created by the Lord, and He owns it all (Ps. 24:1). Understanding ourselves as stewards rather than owners has freed many believers to invest in God's kingdom.

God has a purpose for each of us (Phil. 2:13). When opportunities arise, share what you're learning about God's plan for your life. Your story may encourage someone who feels directionless.

God provides what we need in order to carry out His plan (Phil. 4:11-13). Our heavenly Father equips us with talents and spiritual gifts to achieve His purposes—and often uses our testimonies to strengthen others.

Each day presents opportunities to speak about our Savior. Who might benefit from hearing how He's worked in your life?
