Hey FAC family - don't forget the bike ride tomorrow night up on the Rimrocks. If you come up Zimmerman Trail and turn right, we will be gathering in the 3rd parking lot on the right (the longest one, just before the airport).

Remember you bike helmets and a water bottle

Show up between 5:30-5:45pm. We will start riding at 6pm. Cold treats and refreshments after the ride is over.

Genuine Christ followers are people who have come to personally know God thru placing their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and then are determined to do all that He tells us to do.

When we begin living that way, we walk in the footsteps of Abraham, the father of faith. The writer of Hebrews describes God calling Abraham out from among the nations and directing him to leave family and the familiar behind in order to to gain possession of the land God had led him to. Abraham put his faith into action. He immediately did what God had told him to do.

That's why God graciously credited righteousness to his name. Abraham took God at His word, believing that God would help his future descendants take possession of the land. But that meant God would provide a son of his own, to be his heir. Despite his old age and being "as good as dead," Abraham still believed God and trusted Him for the outcome. No wonder Abraham is lifted up as one of the Bible's clearest examples of living faith.

His younger brother Nahor built a city & named it after himself - giving the appearance of being far more successful. Abraham never even built a home to live in. Yet thousands of years later, Abraham is still remembered for his steadfast faith and the blessing that came to the nations, through his family line. Nahor is simply a footnote, next to Abraham's global & eternal impact.

The Bible has a lot to say about caring for the weak and the vulnerable. Often, the language used describes "the widows and the orphans." James declares that such compassionate action toward those "in distress" personifies "pure and genuine religion." (1:27)

My wife and I have moved into the stage of life, where caring for elderly parents is near the top of our priority list. As I related last week, I drove up to Canada to spend time caring for my folks, while my sister Michelle (their primary care giver) got away for a well-deserved break.

I am far more tuned in to the Bible's admonition for family members to care for elderly parents vs expecting the church to do that for us. The apostle Paul instructs young Pastor Tim, to remind adult children & grandchildren to care for their own parents & elderly relatives (1 Timothy 5:4), so that the church can channel resources to those seniors who genuinely have no one to care for them. Such sacrificial love pleases God.

I'm grateful for the opportunity of joining my brother & sister, in offering care to Mom & Dad. They have done so much over the years for each of us. It's the least we can do for them. But I'm discovering that not everyone sees things that way.

Some families struggle to care for elderly parents or grandparents. Resentment can arise over having to deny themselves in order to provide for parents or relatives who aren't able to care for basic life needs. Some might even feel like using the limited financial resources robs them of their inheritance.

But the Bible says that we owe our parents and need to repay them. Perhaps you you too are now in this season of life. Rather than resenting the intrusion or the cost of time, finances & energy, embrace the moment. It doesn't last long. But your willingness to care is incredibly important to those on the receiving end. And it frees people within the church, to help those who genuinely have no one.

Say yes to loving your parents & grandparents in this way. God will be pleased.

I want to do what pleases God, and there's no question about what that looks like. May we choose to live for His glory, and to bless others with His agape love.

"Faith is being confident of what we hope for, and assurance of what we do not see." Which is Noah is raised up as a faith hero in Hebrews 11. He took to heart the words of the LORD, challenging him to build a massive ark, hundreds of miles from the nearest major body of water. The ark would be God's "lifeboat" for he & his family, along with at least 2 of every kind of animal and bird that lived on the earth.

Noah 's completion of the ark, bore witness to his generation of the coming judgment of God, due to the wickedness that surrounded him. His persistence in obeying God, became the means of his family's rescue from the flood waters that covered the earth, and unlocked God's saving grace for us today.

This week, I'm writing to you from my parent's home in Canada...

It has been a wet, soggy, rainy few days up here. Almost 10 cm of rain (4 inches) have fallen in Southern Alberta over the last four days. While it means I haven't been able to get outside much with my folks, farmers are celebrating this million dollar rain that has saved their crops from burning up in the prior severe drought conditions.

Several week back, Montana Gov. Gianforte appealed to churches to join him, in specifically praying for God to send rain to the parched prairies in the eastern half of Montana. How many gov't leaders do you know who would boldly make such an ask?

Less than two weeks later, inches of rain fell across Montana and most of the Canadian prairie provinces (Alberta, Saskatchewan & Manitoba), and literally saved the crops from being lost. Rivers are running high, dugouts are filling up again, and there's an opportunity for farmers to work with their crops and anticipate a decent harvest in the Fall.

James 5:16 reminds us that "the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective." Not because we are somehow better than others. But because of God's grace and undeserved kindness, in which He hears and answers the prayers of those who have placed their trust in Him.

What a joy it is to see the sun shining now, with all the moisture that has been provided, and to rest in God's super abundant provision, yet again. Rejoice in the LORD always, let me say it again - REJOICE!

I love it, when God shows up in simple life events, and reminds me that He sees and knows what we need to walk closely with Him.

So on Wednesday morning, I made my way to my grandson's elementary school, where they were celebrating students for their learning efforts and achievements. As I sat next to my daughter, and waited for Sam's "big moment", I looked a little harder at the back of a man's T-shirt. He was sitting right in front of me, and once again, I'm being reminded that I need to persevere in my walk with God.

Thank you Lord! By reading the definition of "persevere", I was once more challenged to be tenacious, patiently enduring "stuff" while continuing to walk closely in Jesus' footsteps. A great reminder, as I got ready to study the passage for Sunday's message.

Join us this weekend, as we dig into Hebrews 11:5-6, and discover what made Enoch a faith hero, and how we too can live in a way that pleases God,. Let's choose this motto as the true north star for our lives - "for His glory..."
