This week, I'm writing to you from my parent's home in Canada...

It has been a wet, soggy, rainy few days up here. Almost 10 cm of rain (4 inches) have fallen in Southern Alberta over the last four days. While it means I haven't been able to get outside much with my folks, farmers are celebrating this million dollar rain that has saved their crops from burning up in the prior severe drought conditions.

Several week back, Montana Gov. Gianforte appealed to churches to join him, in specifically praying for God to send rain to the parched prairies in the eastern half of Montana. How many gov't leaders do you know who would boldly make such an ask?

Less than two weeks later, inches of rain fell across Montana and most of the Canadian prairie provinces (Alberta, Saskatchewan & Manitoba), and literally saved the crops from being lost. Rivers are running high, dugouts are filling up again, and there's an opportunity for farmers to work with their crops and anticipate a decent harvest in the Fall.

James 5:16 reminds us that "the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective." Not because we are somehow better than others. But because of God's grace and undeserved kindness, in which He hears and answers the prayers of those who have placed their trust in Him.

What a joy it is to see the sun shining now, with all the moisture that has been provided, and to rest in God's super abundant provision, yet again. Rejoice in the LORD always, let me say it again - REJOICE!

I love it, when God shows up in simple life events, and reminds me that He sees and knows what we need to walk closely with Him.

So on Wednesday morning, I made my way to my grandson's elementary school, where they were celebrating students for their learning efforts and achievements. As I sat next to my daughter, and waited for Sam's "big moment", I looked a little harder at the back of a man's T-shirt. He was sitting right in front of me, and once again, I'm being reminded that I need to persevere in my walk with God.

Thank you Lord! By reading the definition of "persevere", I was once more challenged to be tenacious, patiently enduring "stuff" while continuing to walk closely in Jesus' footsteps. A great reminder, as I got ready to study the passage for Sunday's message.

Join us this weekend, as we dig into Hebrews 11:5-6, and discover what made Enoch a faith hero, and how we too can live in a way that pleases God,. Let's choose this motto as the true north star for our lives - "for His glory..."

This is the final week of the Great Commission "above & beyond" giving campaign. The Alliance is preparing to send out 17 new international workers, and we can play a key part in that.

Join Diana and I, in prayerfully considering an extra gift to the Great Commission Fund of the Alliance.

God has provided some generous donors who are willing to match your giving, up to more than $580,000. So your gift goes twice as far, and lives will be changed for eternity.

Thanks for all that the FAC family already does, and for what more can be accomplished, for God's glory!

What comes to mind when you hear the words "persevering faith...?"

Perhaps other words like enduring, long-suffering, and dogged determination. You may have a Bible verse come to mind, such as Hebrews 10:36 "You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised."

Or, you may have the name and face of a particular person pop up. A guy or gal who resembles "Job" from the Old Testament, or Moses as he spent 40 years of his life, waiting for God to show him the next step. Or just maybe, you find yourself thinking of the people and stories listed in Hebrews 11.

Join us this Memorial Day weekend, as we start a new series that helps us understand what "persevering faith looks like," and how your story might well fit into heaven's version of the Hebrews 11 wall of remembrance...

This week, I'm sharing a simple principle, called "Practice the Pause", that I was encouraged by on a friend's FB page...

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him.” — Psalm 37:7 In other words, take time to pause, as you wait on Him. Think about how simply practicing the pause, helps us to wait long enough to receive what God has for us, in the moment.

Pause before the reaction.
Pause before the fear.
Pause before the overthinking. The world teaches us to move faster and louder. But many times, God meets us in the quiet.
In the stillness, we remember: we are not carrying life alone.
We are guided, loved, and held by a faithful God.
Sometimes the wisest thing you can do is stop striving long enough to pray. 🙏

So practice the pause, and when you do - remember to pray...

Eastertide is the season of 50 days between Resurrection Sunday when the Risen Christ appeared to His disciples, and Pentecost Sunday, when the promised Holy Spirit was poured out upon them.

The instructions Jesus gave to His followers in Acts 1, was to wait for this gift of the Holy Spirit that God had promised them. The empowering of God's Spirit is essential to those who would bear witness to Jesus, in this fallen, broken world.

In the Gospel of John, chapters 14-16, the apostle rehearses Jesus' teachings concerning the Person and work of the Spirit. Join us this weekend, as Joel Grinder unpacks the key highlights concerning the the Spirit of Truth as our Comforter, found within these three chapters...

Have you noticed the universal human tendency to want to hide or operate from "the shadows?"

We bump into it within a few short hours of humanity's fall into the darkness called "sin." During God's customary walk in His garden in the cool of the evening, the LORD calls out to Adam, "where are you?" (Gen.3:9). Adam and Eve were hiding among the shadows cast by the trees and bushes. Their sinful rebellion left them in the dark.

Just recently, the world has been exposed to the reality of a shadow war being fought alongside the current conflict between the USA and Iran. China & Russia have been circumventing sanctions and economic blockades through the use of foreign-flagged oil tankers who regularly switch off their location transponder, in order to load crude oil and deliver it to Russian and Chinese friendly ports. These shadow fleets have been fighting to circumvent America's efforts to isolate the Iranian oil trade.

Of course, it's not just nations that operate from the shadows. Individual human beings are just as guilty. With social media, many take on false IDs and fake profiles, so that they can take cheap shots at others, while hiding on the dark side of the web. These attacks have driven people into emotional black pits, leading some to even take their own lives. The cyber landscape is filled with the scattered remains of the many victims of such shadow shots.

Yet the Bible addresses this human tendency with a single command. Come out of the darkness, and step into the light - John 3:19-20. God dwells in the light, that purifies; exposing anything filled with darkness. In the light, life can be experienced. But in the darkness, there is only pain and death.

Have you been hiding from God? Are you afraid that your failures and shortcomings will be exposed? This works no differently than the lights used by dentists and doctors in their examination rooms. By stepping into the light, the darkness is driven away, and we discover there is no longer any fear. We are perfectly and gently loved back into a right relationship with God.

So how about it? Are you willing to step out of the shadows and into the light?

The "Happy Mother's Day" cards are flying off the shelf, along with bouquets of flowers, and mom's favorite restaurant gift cards. Retail stores are highlighting the arrival of hanging flower baskets, just in time for Mom's Day. The mobile phone networks will be humming come Sunday, during the most important day of the entire year, as we talk with our moms.

But is there more to caring for mom than giving her flowers and a card? Or calling to talk Sunday afternoon? We could all learn a lesson from Jesus. On the most painful and difficult day in His life here on earth, as He was gasping for every breath and slowly dying, Jesus still found a way to express His love & care for His mother, Mary.

Join us this weekend, as we gather on Sunday to worship the Lord, and then unpack that touching scene, tucked into the larger crucifixion story recorded in John 19:25-27. Jesus made sure Mary knew how much He loved her...

Welcome to another new day, where the sun is rising and the light is pushing back the darkness.

Some days feel like the sun forgot to rise. Dark, dismal, discouraging - a tsunami of emotions that can leave us feeling overwhelmed. The more we look around us, the more we see unfinished tasks, unmet expectations and unrealized goals. In those moments, our soul may well feel so far down, that we can't see a way out.

But here's the wonderful news we need in those moments. It's is a new day, filled with fresh expressions of the Father's unending, never failing love. Whether you see the sun rise or not, it's still shining. His mercies are new. His promises still hold true, and anchor our souls. There's all kinds of reasons to choose to rejoice in Him.

So stand firm in the LORD and His great love. Rest in His presence. Take shelter in the strong tower of His name. Put your hope in Him - He has not failed you before, and He wont fail you now. He will take you safely thru the fiery trials and flooding rivers. He will bring you to the other side.

So let us sing praises to His great Name! Hallelujah! Praise the LORD!!
