Religion is a very personal choice, and should not be pushed upon anyone.

May the moon light your path.

For those who have kept up on my little Sholan calendar project, you will know that the new year falls in a couple days. Reflecting upon this, I was thinking about seeing about taking a day off from my day job to do a live stream around each of the coming holidays this coming year, to celebrate, touch base, so on and so forth.

I tend to take a very hands-off approach to religion, and I know that leaves a lack of communication between us. I'm not going to be doing the usual indoctrinal push that you seen a lot of organized religion, because that's just not how I do things, and that's not how religion is looked upon on Shola. We believe that religion is a very private matter, and should not be pushed upon anyone else. If they ask, that's fine, but otherwise what they believe is between them and their god or goddess, or lack thereof.

So, as I said at the beginning of the ramble, I have to get with my supervisor and see if I'm able to take the days off required. I know that I won't be able to take the exact holidays off in most cases, because they fall on days that I work in the middle of my week. I don't want to be inconvenient. Also, this gives me an excuse to take time off, because I haven't voluntarily taken a day off in decades. In fact, when I was in the military they actually had to force me to take time off.

So, that is the plan as it stands. I will keep you updated on if this is a viable plan, or if I got to work something else out.

May the day see you well.

For now, the Zhal Calendar is done. The math was finalized, the daily events adjusted, the seasons set correctly, and the holidays fixed as needed. The links are in the comments. One is for the base calendar, the second is for the holidays. I have a third for birthdays, but for the sake of privacy, that one is not being shared. I will, however, do a third comment to set your own birthday in the new system.

After making a chat command to display the current Sholan date in my Twitch stream (with the help of the devs of the bot), I have learned my original math was off. This should shock no one, I'm ass at math. So, I'm fixing everything in Google calendar. This is going to take a while. I make my own problems, and my own work. Not a complaint, though. I enjoy this.

I need to make a new scene for it, but I want to do semi-regular spiritual services on my stream. Nothing too intense, and no religious pushing. I hate how invasive mainstream, organized religion is, and the society my faith comes from believes that one's religion should never be forced on others.

Here's a little puzzle for you.

God created the world and everything in it, and gave it to mankind, making us the custodians of his creation. Green initiatives are ways that we can help preserve, and repair (if we are lucky) this gift from God. So, technically, if you're voting against them, you're voting against God, in favor of ruining and potentially destroying the gift that he has given us.

Trying to remember why Summer on Shola is so long (Zhal-Zhalwae 6th through Zhal-Nylam 17th, 136 days), and Fall is so short (Zhal-Nyam 18th through Zhal-Rojae 3rd, 48 days). This makes the next few holidays fall close together.

Day of Balance is Zhal-Nylam 18th
Dusk's Encroach is Zhal-S'acha 11th
Winter's Rote is Zhal-Rojae 4th
Midwinter Festival starts Zhal-Kuushoi 26th

That's a holiday a month for the next 4 months (today is Zhal-Nylam 4th, for reference).

I'm sure it has something to do with something I read, but I simply cannot remember.

The Sholan society operates on a guild system. When you show promise or interest in a field, your educational track focuses on the things you need to know for that path. This focus creates a guaranteed placement in a career you're good at and likely enjoy. And you can get cross-guild education, too, obtaining specializations that can make what you do even more valuable.

This education is paid for later through guild dues, which come from your pay later on. This also guarantees you a secondary place to live if you need it at your guild's hub in any city.

Terra (Earth), on the other hand, in places like the United States, has a focus on general education, some of which has no use to many people later in life, and specialized education comes afterward, when your neural pathways have a harder time assimilating new information. And this education can drive you deeply into debt with no guarantee of placement in your field of study.
