Happy Life's Growth to you all. As some of you are aware, I helped in the creation of holidays for my favorite book series, and this is one of them. Bear in mind that the calendar on the world in the books is 374 days long, so their year and our year don't always match up.
The first day of spring is the promise of new things to come. While many of the main clan estates have a central garden, this is not always true of all Sholan homes. The clans come together to begin a communal garden, including flowers and edible vegetation. Throughout the season, everyone in the clan takes turns caring for it. Everyone takes part in the harvest at the end.
The Story
Mellasha was dancing through a meadow, lost in her motion, and the fun she was having. Suddenly she heard a gasp, and stopped to see Ghyakulla watching her. Looking down at her feet, she saw that she had entered a patch of the elder female’s favorite flowers, the Nung blossoms. She moved quickly, trying not to damage the patch further, apologizing as she did. Ghyakulla moved to her, kneeling down and placing a hand on her shoulder, a kind smile on her face. “Accidents happen, young one. But, if you wish to make up for it, you may help me tend to the flowers.” The two toiled in the garden, making a mess of their clothes. At the end of their work, Ghyakulla presented Mellasha with a flower crown and led her to a patch of the clearing where it was safe to play. The two danced and played throughout the rest of the afternoon until they both collapsed, exhausted and giggling.
