When we find ourselves heartbroken...
lost... alone... and ready to give up...
we must face the horror and remember...
we are the beautiful ones... We are...
the ones who love... Kyrie eleison...

You are invited to join us on Sunday, September 13th, as Saint Peter's welcomes the Rt. Rev. Smith as our celebrant for our 9:30 service. Here is a little bit of info regarding Rt. Rev. Smith (courtesy of Quad City Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.):

Born in Abilene, Texas, Wayne Smith grew up in Tuscola, a small town in the farm and ranch country of South Taylor County. He studied at Baylor University (BA and MA), Nashotah House (MDiv), and Sewanee (DMin) and was ordained deacon and priest in the Diocese of Northwest Texas. Beginning his parish ministry in that Diocese, he also served in Western Michigan and Iowa.

After thirteen years as rector of St. Andrew’s, Des Moines, Smith was elected Bishop Coadjutor of the Diocese of Missouri in 2001 and ordained bishop in 2002. Later that year he was seated as the Tenth Bishop of the Diocese, where he served until 2020.

After retirement he served two-and-a-half years as Bishop Provisional of Southern Ohio, 2021-24. Smith has also served the wider Church on various boards, commissions, and committees. He especially maintains interest and expertise in liturgy and the Prayer Book.

Smith and his spouse, Debra Morris Smith, married forty-nine years, live in Des Moines. They have three adult children, all married, and three grandchildren. For rest and recreation, he likes to read, walk, bake bread, collect vintage fountain pens, and FaceTime with children and grandchildren. For more than fifty years he has been a licensed ham radio operator. The Smith household includes a ten-month-old Lakeland Terrier puppy named Sophie.

"He did not rule over or compel my faith; he also never put any obstacle in the way of my faith but rather much more he actively furthered and helped me. He granted and allowed me space and will to read, hear, pray, study, and be active in all good things, early and late, day and night: indeed, he took great joy in that—even when it meant less attention to or neglect in looking after his physical needs and running his household."
-Katharina Zell about her husband, reformer Matthew Zell
