This June, GBCS acknowledges the contributions and sacrifices of the LGBTQIA+ community in the pursuit of peace and justice nationally and globally. Pride Month was established in the United States to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York City. The United Methodist Church’s Social Principles affirm that human sexuality is a gift grounded in love, care, and respect.

We encourage members and congregations of the church to take time to learn from and listen to members of the q***r community, to practice inclusivity, and to stand in solidarity against attacks on the LGBTQIA+ community—especially those targeting youth. We call for the protection of the rights and personhood of q***r and trans people within both the church and public policy.

Ways to engage: Join the LGBTQIA+ monthly working group (fourth Wednesday of every month at 5 p.m. ET), connect with your conference chapter of the Reconciling Ministries Network (RMN) for resources, and participate in advocacy efforts in your local community and state.

New Dayers: Pam Rowland’s “grandchickens” have produced an abundance of eggs, and she’s bringing the extra to church tomorrow for anyone in the congregation who fancies them. All you need to do is provide cartons. (If you have cartons but don’t want eggs, bring the empties for others 😊).

Every now and then – once or twice in a blue moon – something happens that makes us stop and look up. You know the phrase. A blue moon is rare – an extra full moon appearing unexpectedly in the calendar cycle. It doesn’t happen often. And because it doesn’t happen often, people notice. In faith we often refer to “blue moon” moments as miracles, and they’re amazing! But in truth, most of our lives are lived in everyday moments. What about faith then?

In the final sermon of our “Ancient Stories That Speak Today” series, we will investigate what God’s gift of manna in the wilderness can reveal about both extraordinary and ordinary expressions of faith. Join us for refreshments at 10:15 and worship at 10:30 this Sunday. We can't wait to see you there!

Picture for a minute the Pentecost story: Men and women and children crowded together in a house, all of a sudden experiencing the miracle of the Holy Spirit – violent wind, loud noises, tongues as of fire. And then thousands of other folks, devout Jews from every nation, gathered together, hearing and speaking the good news in a thousand different languages. All that excitement, all those people, all that noise – talk about a mess! A Holy Mess! That’s what we’ll be talking about this Sunday as we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost.

Wear red or similar hot colors if you like, and join us for worship at 10:30 (refreshments at 10:15.) We can't wait to see you this Sunday!
