“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”
Matthew 11:28-29 KJV
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 11:28-29
Unlike the religious scholars of His day, Jesus taught that being one of His disciples meant having a personal relationship with the Lord. Following the Messiah means doing what He does, listening to His voice and letting His love be what guides and drives you.
The Jewish teachers of the Scriptures were more occupied with following the letter of the law and adhering to numerous unwritten rules than truly pleasing the Lord. They were concerned with inheriting God's kingdom through their actions, while their hearts remained unmoved.
Loving Jesus is different from any religion you can find in the world. There is no other god who would do what He has done for us. Instead of demanding we would serve Him, Jesus was willing to serve us. The Son of God made Man took on the burden of being perfectly without sin. All so He could be the spotless sacrifice that reconciles us with the Lord. Nothing we do could ever make us worthy of that grace. And nothing we do could ever separate us from His love. Walking with Jesus is not a burden, an endless list of requirements we have to meet in order to be worthy of Him. Jesus Himself has made us worthy by covering us with the forgiveness He obtained for us on the cross. Living in a relationship with the Lord gives us peace, teaches us the way we should apply who He is to who we are. He came to free us from sin and set the ultimate example of honoring God with His entire being.
Once you discover the depth of God’s love for you, the lengths He was willing to go to to make you His, it changes your entire outlook on life. You’ll no longer want to be who you were before. Instead you’ll want to live only for His glory. His Spirit will teach you to hate the sins you used to idolize before. Living according to God’s will becomes your desire, not an obligation.
Surrender your life into His hands and let Jesus show you how much peace and joy there is in living for Him alone, free from oppression and bo***ge to sin of any kind.
