Psalm 29:11
The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.
Today’s verse is a reminder that the God who rules with power also cares for His people with compassion. It assures believers that He does not abandon us to face life’s burdens and trials alone. Instead, He gives us the strength to endure what is difficult and the peace to rest in His presence. Even when circumstances feel uncertain, we can trust that God is steady, faithful, and near. His strength lifts us when we are weak, and His peace settles our minds and hearts when we are troubled.

Psalm 37:17
For the power of the wicked will be broken, but the Lord upholds the righteous.
Today’s verse comes from a Psalm that is known as a wisdom Psalm. Written by David, its purpose was to encourage believers to stand strong in their faith when evil and corrupt people seem to prosper while they suffer. Injustice has reared its ugly head throughout the ages, and when we look at what is happening in today’s society and see evil being rewarded, dishonesty celebrated, and faithfulness overlooked, it is easy to become discouraged. Today’s verse, however, reminds us that the success of the wicked is limited, and the power of God is eternal. He sees every wrong, knows every burden, and faithfully holds up those who trust in Him. While the wicked may avoid punishment in this life, we can be assured that they will face the ultimate punishment when they stand before God.

Obadiah 1:14
You should not wait at the crossroads to cut down their fugitives, nor hand over their survivors in the day of their trouble.
Today’s verse is part of Obadiah’s message of the judgment God was going to hand down on the nation of Edom. Judah and Jerusalem were about to fall to the Babylonians, and many Israelites were trying to escape to avoid being captured by the Babylonians. Instead of helping them, the nation of Edom took advantage of their plight, even capturing them and turning them over to the Babylonians. In the end, God completely destroyed the nation of Edom because of their betrayal and rejoicing over the destruction of Judah and Jerusalem. Today’s verse is a reminder that “God pays attention to how we treat one another” and won’t tolerate those who rejoice because of the suffering of others. Instead, He wants His people to show compassion and mercy to those who are suffering and experiencing trouble in their lives.

Romans 7:6
But now we have been released from the law, for we died to it and are no longer captive to its power. Now we can serve God, not in the old way of obeying the letter of the law, but in the new way of living in the Spirit.
Looking at today’s verse, the law Paul referred to can be found in the Old Testament books, Exodus and Deuteronomy. There you can read the account of God giving the Israelites a list of laws to guide their lives. The purpose of the laws was to maintain order until the coming of Christ. In his letter to the Colossians concerning the law, Paul wrote, “For these rules are only shadows of the reality yet to come. And Christ himself is that reality”. When a person accepts Christ, God then becomes the center of their life. Keeping the law is no longer required to reach God. Today we reach God through Jesus, and the more we become like Him, the closer we move towards God. Salvation is gained through the acceptance of Jesus, not by keeping the law or good works.

Proverbs 31:9
Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless, and see that they get justice.
Today’s verses from Proverbs was written by a little known king named Lemuel who ruled over the kingdom of Massa located in northern Arabia. Today’s verse serves as a moral reminder that Christians and the church should be active as advocates for social justice. The Bible teaches that those who are able are to be the voice for those who are unable to take care of themselves or protect themselves from social injustice. In the Book of James it says, “Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.” And Isaiah tells us, “Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the ruthless, Defend the orphan, Plead for the widow.” Today’s verse serves as a warning of the consequences for those who take advantage of the poor and needy. There are many passages that speak of God’s affection for the poor and needy, and in the end God, will protect the disadvantaged and punish those who ignored their cries.

James 1:3
For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.
Today’s verse serves as a foundation for understanding the Christian viewpoint on suffering and spiritual development. The Bible teaches that trials not only test our faith but allows us to grow stronger in our faith. In Romans Paul tells us that "Suffering produces endurance, endurance produces character, and character produces hope." In 1 Peter, Peter tells us that “Trials test the genuineness of your faith, making it stronger and more valuable than gold tested by fire.” In today’s world one’s faith is put to the test in many different ways. While some of those test many be difficult, James encourages believers to stand firm in their faith and allow those tests to strengthen their faith and trust in God.

Colossians 3:15
And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body, you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.
In today’s verse, Paul encourages all believers to allow Jesus to decide which emotions will rule their hearts. Our hearts are the center of our emotions and often those emotions are in conflict with one another. Only Jesus can help us make the right decisions that will allow us to live in peace with others and even those who disagree with us. Paul’s reference to always be thankful is a reminder to shift our focus from things that irritate us to all that God has blessed us with

Ephesians 3:12
Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence.
Paul wrote today’s verse while sitting in a Roman prison. Its purpose was to assure the believers in Rome that Jesus had secured their secured through His sacrifice on the cross, and that now they were able to stand in the presence of God. In the Old Testament only the high priest was able to come into the presence of God on behalf of the people and that occurred only once a year. But through the sacrifice of Jesus everyone was given direct access to God and God’s presence is forever close to His people. He is no longer a distant or unreachable God. Now believers can approach God with confidence at any time in prayer, knowing that He hears our prayers and is actively working within the lives of all those who acknowledge Jesus as their savior.

Psalm 150:6
Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord! Praise the Lord!
The author of today’s verse is unknown but who ever he was addressing, he was encouraging them to “Praise the Lord.” This last verse of the last Psalm in the Book of Psalms is a fitting conclusion to a book where anyone can find words of comfort to uplift his spirits at any time as he journeys through life. Today’s verse clearly states the reason everyone should praise God on a daily basis is that He is the creator who has given each of us the gift of life. Each breath we take is reason enough to praise God.
