Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon We, the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon, share in the mission of Jesus by proclaiming the Good News of God’s love. The Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon are committed to serving others through faith and action.

The Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon, living as women of prayer in simplicity and sisterly love, sponsor ministries that provide a lifespan of education and caring. Our community center (motherhouse) shares a 43-acre campus in Beaverton with these ministries:

Sr. Anne devoted her life to faith, service and community. She is survived by her sisters, Sr. Clare and Sr. Agnes Marie Vandecoevering, SSMO, Mary Stadelman and Minni Krieger; her Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon community; numerous nieces and nephews; the dedicated caregivers of the SSMO Infirmary; and many cherished friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Joseph and Delia Elizabeth (Vandehey) Vandecoevering; her brothers Albert, Harold, Tom, Edward, Stephen and Vincent; and her sisters Margaret, Agnes and Theresa.

Sr. Anne Vandecoevering, a woman of deep contemplation, passed away on June 3, 2026.

Sister Adele Marie Altenhofen (UP class of ’81, MA ‘87) received an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Public Service from her alma mater, the University of Portland. The University cited Sister Adele Marie’s significant contributions to the Catholic Church and to the people of the Pacific Northwest for bestowing this honor on her.
