As we enter hurricane season, we turn our hearts to the Lord in prayer, trusting in His protection and peace over our homes, families, and communities.

In moments when storms feel uncertain and powerful, we are reminded that God remains the Master of land and sea. We place our hope in Him and seek the intercession of Our Lady, Star of the Sea, asking for safety, strength, and peace throughout the season ahead.

We unite in prayer using the words of Bishop Maurice Schexnayder, lifting up our Diocese and all those in harm’s way.

What a month May has been across the Diocese of Baton Rouge!

We invite you to read this month’s edition of The Collect, highlighting stories of faith in action throughout our diocesan community. From couples reflecting on the call to holiness in marriage, to the opening of Rosalie’s Boutique by St. Vincent de Paul, to the recognition of outstanding Catholic school educators at the Mother Seton Awards, these stories reflect a Church living its mission each day. This issue also features the impact of Women’s Giving Circles, the announcement of new pastoral assignments, and a powerful reflection on a real American hero.

Read the May edition here: https://diobr.org/news/the-collect-may-2026

May’s stories reflect a Church alive with vocation, service, gratitude, and hope. In this edition of The Collect, we see how the call to holiness is lived out in marriage and family life, how Catholic generosity continues to serve those in need, and how leaders across our Diocese are guiding commu...

The Most Holy Trinity is celebrated on the first Sunday after Pentecost. It honors the central mystery of the Christian faith: that the one true God exists in three distinct divine Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Trinity Sunday is entirely dedicated to reflecting on the eternal nature and revelation of God.

As we enter into this sacred celebration, we are invited to contemplate the depth of God’s love revealed to us and to grow in reverence for the mystery at the heart of our faith.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

As our seminarians continue their journey toward the priesthood, many will spend the summer serving and growing through a variety of formation assignments across the Diocese and beyond. These summer assignments are an important part of seminary formation, helping them deepen their relationship with Christ while gaining hands-on pastoral experience.

• Parish Assignments immerse seminarians in the daily life of a parish and allow them to learn alongside parish priests. Through these assignments, they witness priestly ministry firsthand, build relationships throughout the Diocese, and continue discerning the kind of priest God is calling them to become.
• IPF focuses on the spiritual dimension of formation, encouraging seminarians to grow in prayer and intimacy with the Lord. As part of this experience, seminarians will also make an 8-day silent retreat.
• CPE places seminarians in hospital ministry as chaplains, where they accompany patients and families during difficult moments. This experience helps them grow in compassion, pastoral care, and self-knowledge as they encounter the realities of suffering and healing.

Please keep our seminarians in your prayers this summer as they continue to listen to the Lord and prepare to serve His Church.
