Today, the Church celebrates the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, one of only three birthdays commemorated in the liturgical calendar. From his very birth, there was a sense of wonder and joy because God was preparing something extraordinary through this child.

St. John would become the last of the great prophets, the one who prepared the way for the Lord and pointed others to Christ. May his witness inspire us to recognize God's work in our own lives and boldly lead others to Jesus.

St. John the Baptist, pray for us.

It is with sadness that the Diocese of Baton Rouge announces the death of Deacon Peter Walsh, a retired deacon of the Diocese of Baton Rouge, who served previously as the Deacon Assistant at St. Patrick Church in Baton Rouge and St. Thomas More Church in Baton Rouge. He passed away on Sunday, 21 June 2026 after a recent illness.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him!

Funeral arrangements are pending and will be communicated once they are completed.

Please keep Deacon Walsh, his family, and all who mourn his loss in your prayers. May he rest in peace!

With gratitude to God, we congratulate Deacon Jeremy Chiasson and Deacon Aeli Poydras on their ordination to the Transitional Diaconate.

Through the laying on of hands and the invocation of the Holy Spirit, they have been configured to Christ the Servant and ordained to proclaim the Gospel, assist at the altar, and serve the People of God in charity and humility as they continue their journey toward the priesthood.

Please join us in praying for Deacons Jeremy and Aeli as they begin this new chapter of ordained ministry.
