BAI Tots got to explore Beth Am’s brand new Torah! Hazzan Harold showed us the beautiful new Torah that our BAI community helped bring to life, and we had so much fun learning all about it! We discovered what a Torah is, who a sofer/soferet is and the amazing work they do, and we even made our very own Torahs using sticks from the Ya’ar as our etzim (Torah rollers)🌿📜

Shorashim Snapshot: Week 7 was all about Torah building! Our students learned from Soferet Jen Taylor Friedman how to help complete BAI’s new Torah by punching holes in the parchment, sorting the sheets, and making “Torah Band-Aids” for repairs.

Back in the Ya’ar, our Kitah Aleph students explored the Shema, Kitah Dalet played a fun game of 4 corners to review their blessings, and other classes got creative with their own blessing review 📜✨

Shorashim snapshot: what a fun-filled afternoon of learning yesterday! This week, we split up into 2 groups and explored the story of Noah’s Ark. Our 4th–7th graders teamed up to build an ark of their own in the Ya’ar before reflecting on the words “Ma Nora HaMakom Hazeh!” (“How awesome this place is!”) and sharing places that are special to them. Meanwhile, our K–3rd graders wrapped up their creation projects, learned the bracha (blessing) for seeing a rainbow, and went on a nature hunt to discover materials in the Ya’ar that reflect the colors of a rainbow 🌈 🌿

Shorashim Snapshot: this week, we dove into the story of creation! Our students explored Beresh*t (Genesis, the first book of the Torah), through a text study with Rabbi David. Each class got creative by making their own letters with things they found in the Ya’ar to spell out בראשית (Beresh*t)! We also got to swap out the Torah covers from white to blue, dancing and singing with the Torahs as we dressed them! Next week, we’ll continue our creations and see where our learning takes us! 🌎

Shorashim Snapshot: We had another great week at Shorashim! We continued exploring Sukkot, shook the lulav and etrog in the sukkah, learned the brachot (blessings) for fruits and veggies, and celebrated with a Sukkot harvest feast! 🍂🍐 We also got creative by making our own fruit and veggie stamp cards 🍎🥕🫛🫑

Shorashim Snapshot: we had a wonderful week 3 of Shorashim yesterday! We helped plant 4 trees around the parking lot to celebrate BAI’s centennial anniversary! We started learning about Sukkot, the blessings we say to sit inside the sukkah and the blessings we say to shake the lulav and etrog. It was a beautiful afternoon of learning, planting, and working together 🌳

Huge shout-out to everyone who came out in the rain for Reverse Tashlich! This tradition turns symbolism into action! Our members cleaned up Flat Rock Park along the river. Thanks to Phyllis Blumberg for organizing and for this wonderful addition to our High Holy Day rituals.
