Deacon Griffen Schlaepfer first felt a ‘small voice’ inviting him to think about the priesthood when he was a junior in high school. Following graduation, he went to Penn State University, and it was during his freshman year that he began to further discern the priesthood. After much prayer and encouragement from his friends, Griffen reached out to the Vocation Office and applied to St. Charles Borromeo Seminary. Deacon Griffen will be ordained a priest for the Catholic Church of Philadelphia tomorrow, May 16th. His advice to those who are discerning is to be open to the many ways that God speaks to us. Please pray for Deacon Griffen and his fellow deacons who will be ordained priests on Saturday to serve in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

Deacon Jude Opara first heard the call to the priesthood while an engineer in Nigeria. He followed that call and eventually entered seminary for a religious congregation in Nigeria. In prayer, he discerned that God was not calling him to stay with this religious community and left the community and migrated to the United States. After 4 years of further discernment, he felt that God was calling him to the diocesan priesthood for the Catholic Church of Philadelphia and was accepted into St. Charles Borromeo Seminary. Deacon Jude will be ordained a priest this Saturday, May 16th, and his advice for those who are discerning is to pray, persevere and have patience.

Deacon Dominic Mirenda will be ordained a priest for the Catholic Church of Philadelphia on Saturday, May 16th. Deacon Dominic entered seminary following his graduation from high school – open to God’s call and without any expectations other than following God. His advice for those who are discerning whether to enter seminary and follow the call to the priesthood is to just enter – because seminary is the best place to hear the call of God and to become a better man.
