The Church at Highland Park

The Church at Highland Park Engaging the mind,
Deepening the spirit,
Celebrating diversity,
Challenging injustice. All are welcome because all are worthy.

We are a progressive church whose theological perspective includes the historic Baptist principles of the authority of scripture, priesthood of all believers, necessity of conversion, autonomy of the local church and the importance of missions. We strive to be an open-minded, flexible and creative church, informed and aware of people’s needs and how we can work with God to meet these needs. We are

affiliated with the Alliance of Baptists, the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, the Baptist Peace Fellowship, and Texas Baptists.

June 7: 2ND SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST
Genesis 12:1-9 / Psalm 33:1-12 / Romans 4:13-25 / Matthew 9:9-13, 18-26
Go to a land I will show you.

No map. No guarantee. Just a call and a promise.
Abram went. Matthew got up from his tax collector's table. A grieving father stepped forward in faith. A woman reached through a crowd just to touch the hem of a garment.

Every single one of them moved before they had certainty.

What's a moment in your life when you took a leap of faith without knowing where you'd land? We'd love to hear it. 👇

May 31: TRINITY SUNDAY
Psalm 8 / 2 Corinthians 13:11-13 / Matthew 28:16-20
How majestic. How mysterious. How close.

The God of the cosmos — the one whose glory is higher than the heavens — is the same God who asks us to live in peace with one another, greet each other with love, and go into the world together.

Trinity Sunday isn't really about solving a theological puzzle. It's about sitting with the beautiful, humbling idea that the divine is relational at its very core.

If God is community, what does that say about how we're meant to live?

"The active language of love in action, which is the life and language of Jesus, knows no linguistic or other barriers toward inclusivity."

From Rev. Walt Shelton's sermon, "Pentecost and Inclusivity", preached on Pentecost Sunday.

PENTECOST SUNDAY: 1 Corinthians 12:3b-13
🔥 One Spirit. Many gifts.

Paul reminds us that the same Spirit that moves through you moves through the person sitting next to you — even if you look nothing alike, believe with different words, or bring completely different gifts to the table.

That's not a problem to solve. That's the point.

"To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good."

What gift do you bring to this community that you don't always see as a gift? Tell us in the comments. 👇
