GOSPEL ~ Matthew 18:21-35
The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant
"So will my heavenly Father do to you, unless each of you forgives your brother from your heart."

In the parable of the Unforgiving Servant, the servant is forgiven a huge debt by his master but refuses to forgive a much smaller debt owed to him. The master is furious and punishes him. Jesus uses this story to teach that those who receive mercy must also show mercy.

God freely forgives, but He expects people to forgive in return. When someone refuses to forgive, they close themselves off from God’s mercy. The parable makes it clear that forgiveness is not optional. It is a necessary part of following God.

Forgiveness can be hard, especially when someone has been deeply hurt. We are challenged to trust that forgiving others is part of God’s plan. It does not mean excusing bad behavior, but it does mean choosing to let go of anger and resentment.

Let us remember that God’s mercy is endless. We should not take it for granted or keep it for ourselves. Instead, we should share it with others, knowing that forgiving others brings them closer to God.

Twenty-five years later, we remember all those who lost their lives, the heroes who served and sacrificed, and the families whose lives were forever changed.

May God grant them eternal rest, comfort to their loved ones, and peace to our nation. May they rest in the peace of Christ.

In case you plan on stopping by today to pick up Kettle Corn…. It is, after all, Wednesday, right ???
Well, you’ll have to wait until next Wednesday (9/16) as Knights are popping every other Wednesday now. Yes, sad news!
The good news is this….
If you can’t wait a week, make sure you stop by Rocktember this Saturday, September 12 from 5:30pm until 9pm as Kettle Corn will be available! Freshly popped! You’ll for sure want some for the Ohio State game, right?

The Brother Who Sins
"For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."

This weekend we learn how to handle disagreements within the Christian community. Jesus gives clear steps for addressing conflicts. First, speak to the person privately. If that does not work, involve a few others. If the problem continues, bring it to the church. If the person still refuses to listen, they may be separated from the community.

Jesus understands that disagreements will happen. The church is made up of people, and people make mistakes. Instead of ignoring problems or letting them grow, Jesus teaches a way to deal with them fairly. The goal is not punishment but reconciliation.

We are also reminded that actions matter. When we make decisions in unity and prayer, those decisions carry authority. God is with us, guiding our choices.

Not officially the last Wednesday of Knights of Columbus kettle corn, but Knights will be popping every other Wednesday after today!
