We mourn the loss of a true champion for our community, Georgia Congressman David Scott, who passed away at 80.

For nearly five decades, Congressman Scott dedicated his life to empowering voices across Georgia and the nation. From his fierce advocacy for farmers to his unwavering support for historically Black colleges and community programs, he consistently put the needs of our neighborhoods first.

Our condolences to the Representatives family

Georgia Democratic U.S. Rep. David Scott, the first Black man to chair the U.S. House Agriculture Committee, has died after nearly 50 years of elected office. He was 80 years old.

His death was confirmed by his office. Scott had filed to run for a 13th term in office this year but was facing strong challenges from well-funded Democrats in the primary.
