Embry Hills UMC Reconciling Ministries Embry Hills UMC Reconciling Ministries Group shares God’s welcome with all people. ALL ARE WELCOME HERE.

Embry Hills UMC Reconciling Ministries believes that having open hearts, open minds and open doors means we are called to share God’s welcome with all people. We seek to establish a community where believers, seekers and doubters of every race, ethnicity, age, ability, socioeconomic status, gender identity and sexual orientation are equally valued as beloved children of God. We believe that Jesus

taught of God’s love and acceptance for all, which we seek to embody through our actions, prayers, service, witness and discipleship and when we fail to be that which we seek to be, it is not intentional.

We are so very sad to share this news.

We have heartbreaking news to share with you, and we wish we could do this with you in person. On the morning of Tuesday, September 2nd, Helen Ryde died unexpectedly in their home.

We mourn because Helen had so much left to do – not just through their role at RMN but in the love they had yet to receive and give, their compassion and thoughtfulness, their authenticity and courage.

We'll have chances in the coming days to recollect Helen's ministry. For now, we welcome you to share below and be for each other a cloud of comfort. (Please honor Helen's pronouns, they/them, as a part of who Helen was and is.)

We grieve with those whom this language harmed & prevented from serving as called and with those who left our denomination in order to answer fully God's call on their lives.

There was a slight strain of sadness among the jubilant United Methodists celebrating in a courtyard of the Charlotte Convention Center after the ban on gay clergy was lifted. Those whose potential contributions to the church are forever lost were also remembered.
