The Sixth Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church joins the nation, the global Church, and all people of goodwill in mourning the passing of the Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr., a faithful servant whose life’s work helped shape the moral conscience of our nation and advance the ongoing pursuit of justice and human dignity.

Throughout his distinguished ministry as pastor, civil rights leader, and public servant, Reverend Jackson stood at the intersection of faith and action, embodying the prophetic witness of the Black Church. His voice called communities toward hope, his leadership challenged systems toward equity, and his ministry reflected a steadfast commitment to uplifting those whose voices too often went unheard.

His life stands as a powerful reminder that the work of the Church extends beyond the sanctuary into the public square, where faith compels us to advocate for justice, reconciliation, and beloved community. Reverend Jackson’s legacy affirms the enduring role of the Church as both spiritual anchor and prophetic instrument in the ongoing struggle for freedom and equality.

May the peace of God sustain his family, loved ones, and all who were touched by his ministry. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
