Calvary Baptist Church

Calvary Baptist Church We are an independent Baptist Church located in the east Texas town of Athens. Here we focus on three things - Faith, Family and Friendship.

"Meet Me At Calvary" and see these grow in your life. - Pastor Kris As Baptists we believe that the Bible is our only rule of faith and practice. That the church is the organization Jesus commissioned to carry out the Commission to Disciple, Baptizes and Teach. Therefore we preach and teach God's Word directly from the God's Book using expository messages, in depth Bible Studies and hands on lesso

ns for our children to bring the Bible alive. As independents we send our missionaries out from the local church with the co-operative support of other independent Baptist churches. We have no boards, no associations and bureaucracies and no overhead that outside agencies often bring. 100% of a missionary's support goes to the missionary. As Christian men, women and families we believe that God made the family to be the building block of all human institutions, especially the church and therefore we emphasis a strong family ministry. We enjoy fellowship and food because we know these build bonds and make for a strong and joyous church. Meet Me at Calvary and see for yourself what a church that focuses on Faith, Family and Fellowship is really like - Pastor Kris

It was 1862, and the country was very uncertain because of the Civil War. Preacher Joseph Gilmore wanted the people to focus on the Lord’s guidance and chose the 23rd Psalm for his sermon text. After the service, he was visiting a deacon’s home, and there was further discussion of the blessednes...

Being a father in this world is a tough, hard, nearly impossible job. Our hope lies not in a perfect fatherhood, but in our perfect Father. That is where our hope and hearts should be on this Father’s Day. Go to Jesus seek life for your family. He is the life giver. Go to Jesus and intercede for you children. He is the One who answers prayer. Go to Jesus and put your faith in Him unconditionally. He has promised, “I will never leave you. Never forsake you. Never fail you.”

Fathers much rests on your shoulders, but Jesus has promised he would bear the yoke with us. Let us rejoice and trust in that promise.

The branch does not strain to grow a leaf or send out a tendril or shoot forth a bud or grow a cluster of grapes. These things happen because the branch is attached to the vine. In the same way, the power of a Christian life is in staying strongly secured, absolutely attached to the vine, Jesus Christ. All you need is in Him. Make sure your relationship with Jesus is strong and the fruit will take care of itself.
