The Word Church was birthed out of the vision of two Pastors, Rev. Haynes and Pastor Tony Ray Smith, with two separate and distinct churches to do more together for the Kingdom of God. Open the Book Ministries and The Empowerment Church first joined in partnership by sharing a worship location beginning in November of 2015. Dr. Haynes' retirement, a prayerful decision was made to merge both church

es and hold one worship service starting in March 2016 with the anticipation of a new ministry commencing in January 2017. Relationships grew and God was truly glorified as OTB/TEC became one body during those nine months of worship and fellowship.

Established in 2025, The One Church United Fellowship of Churches and Ministries (OCUF) exists to serve and strengthen small churches—defined as congregations with 150 members or fewer.

The vision and name of this ministry were originally shared with Pastor Tony Ray Smith by his ministry assistant, Elder Edrick Harris. With Elder Harris’ blessing, Pastor Smith embraced the opportunity to develop a fellowship rooted in that vision.

Though officially launched in 2025, OCUF has been a shared passion and calling in the hearts of Pastor Smith and Elder Harris for over 15 years.
