The Word Church was birthed out of the vision of two Pastors, Rev. Haynes and Pastor Tony Ray Smith, with two separate and distinct churches to do more together for the Kingdom of God. Open the Book Ministries and The Empowerment Church first joined in partnership by sharing a worship location beginning in November of 2015. Dr. Haynes' retirement, a prayerful decision was made to merge both church

es and hold one worship service starting in March 2016 with the anticipation of a new ministry commencing in January 2017. Relationships grew and God was truly glorified as OTB/TEC became one body during those nine months of worship and fellowship.

Last Sunday, Pastor made sure everyone left with more than just a Word. After service, members enjoyed some ice cream, fellowship, and a few extra smiles. 😊🙌🏾

What an incredible way to close out VBS! 🚢📖🔬

On our final night, our kids explored boats in the Bible, discovering their significance while learning the science and engineering behind how boats float and function. Throughout VBS, our goal was to intentionally connect Scripture with science, helping children see that God is the Author of both His Word and His creation.

Our key Scripture was Genesis 6:15, where God gave Noah the exact measurements for the ark, the biggest boat-building project in history. The children learned that God doesn’t just call people to do great things. He also gives them the wisdom, instructions, and resources to accomplish the task.

The bottom line was simple: God can guide and equip you to build something that’s never been done before.

We were also honored to have our Presiding Bishop-Elect, Bishop Tony Ray Smith, share the chapel lesson. As he taught about the many boats in the Bible, the sanctuary came alive with excitement as the children ran from “boat to boat,” bringing the lesson to life through movement and interaction.

To celebrate an amazing week, every child received prizes and a customized backpack filled with school supplies as they prepare for a new school year.

Thank you to every volunteer, parent, and child who made this year’s VBS such a special experience. We are already looking forward to what God has in store for next year! ❤️🙌🎒

Day 2 of VBS was full of discovery and creativity! ⚙️✨

Tonight our kids learned that God is the greatest Engineer of all time. Every part of His creation reflects His wisdom, creativity, and perfect design.

We also discovered that God has uniquely gifted each of us. Ephesians 2:10 reminds us, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

Our children were encouraged to see themselves as God’s workmanship, created with purpose, equipped with gifts, and designed to make an impact for His glory.

Another amazing night of learning, building, creating, and growing in God’s Word! We can’t wait for Day 3! ❤️🔧✨
