Message Series: The Life of Faith Under the Cross
Sermon Title: “Following Jesus into the Mess,” Matthew 16:21-28
Scriptures: Jeremiah 15:15-21; Romans 12:9-21

Jesus calls us to follow him. Following Jesus involves daily denying ourselves and picking up our cross … and teaching others to do the same thing. Peter wanted to follow Jesus, but only if it led to prosperity and power, but this isn’t the life Jesus calls his people to live. Jesus calls his people into ministry, and ministry by definition is messy. He calls us to reach into people’s lives with the saving message of the Gospel, and he calls us to teach others how to follow Jesus so they can teach others to do the same thing.
