Dear Newman community,

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of Dr. Edward A. “Ed” Connors, retired Professor Emeritus at UMass Amherst and a cherished member of our Newman community. We ask you to join us in praying for his wife, Dr. Mary Ann (Corbo) Connors, his daughter, Kathleen Connors, a valued member of our Development Board, and all who mourn his loss.

Dr. Connors was deeply involved in our ministry dating back to the time of Rev. Joseph Quigley. He was a devoted husband, father, friend, and faithful supporter of our community. We are profoundly grateful for Ed and the entire Connors family for the lasting impact they have had on our ministry and on so many lives.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Newman Center on Tuesday, June 23, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a brief reception in honor of his memory. We warmly invite all members of our community to attend and join us in praying for the repose of Dr. Connors’ soul and for the comfort and peace of his family.

On this Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, we give thanks to God for the many ways He reveals His love through the generosity of His people, especially our donors who support our ministry through generous donations. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our student, Pearl Sears, for donating this beautiful sculpture of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which is now displayed in front of our chapel.

The image of the Sacred Heart reminds us of Christ’s boundless love, mercy, and sacrifice for all humanity. May all who pass by this sacred artwork be inspired to draw closer to the Heart of Jesus and entrust their lives to His loving care.

Thank you, Pearl, for this thoughtful and meaningful gift. May the Sacred Heart of Jesus continue to bless you abundantly and fill your heart with His peace and love.

What a joy to witness today, the sacred union of Ryan Kramer and Maria Tejada, beloved Newman Alumni, as they exchanged vows at Our Lady Of The Valley Parish in Easthampton!

Ryan, a dedicated alumnus of UMass Amherst, actively lived out his faith through the Newman Center's Catholic Student Association and Altar Servers.
Maria, a shining member of Smith College's Newman Catholic Club, led as President for four years.

As they embark on this new chapter, we pray the Lord sustains them in their vocation of marriage, guiding them to love and cherish one another. 🙏🏽

Congratulations to this wonderful couple. 🎉

This week, I'm blessed to be spending quality time at Ave Maria University, Florida, for the FOCUS Catholic New Staff Training/Campus Ministry Days, where I'm being rejuvenated in the company of dedicated missionaries who partner with us in spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ at the UMass Amherst Newman Catholic Center.

We're overjoyed to welcome three new missionaries, Heidi McLaughlin, (wife of our Music Director,)
Henry Kindler, and Lourdes Navarro, joining forces with seasoned veterans Julie Sulva, our Team Director, and Julio Yahir Hernandez, bringing our team to a radiant five members.

May your prayers surround us as we take this chance to rest, reflect, and equip ourselves spiritually for the upcoming academic year. 🙏🏽
