Go Tell It IN the Mountains recruits, educates, equips, and empowers individuals across the Northwestern PA, Allegheny, and Upper Susquehanna Synods—helping both experienced and emerging voices prepare sermons, leverage new media for outreach, and engage communities.

Meet Pastor Alicia Anderson — she's leading us through this week's readings as we get ready for Sunday, August 30. Peter just called Jesus the Messiah. Now Jesus tells him what that actually means: suffering, death, a cross in Jerusalem. Peter can't accept it — and Jesus's response cuts right to the cost of following him at all.

Yesterday's gospel reading was Matthew 16:13-20. At the end of the scene, Jesus tells the disciples not to tell anyone he's the Messiah — not yet.

It's worth sitting with. We're not always called to announce our faith. Sometimes it's better served by what we do.

By this point in Matthew, the disciples have seen Jesus feed thousands, walk on water, and heal people wherever he goes. So when he finally asks who they think he is, Peter doesn't hesitate: "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God."
