Building community with our neighbors experiencing homelessness and poverty since 1996. We would love to welcome you as part of this community.

Rising Hope ministers in the name of Christ to the spiritual and practical needs of the most at-risk people on the Route 1 Corridor south of Alexandria. Our members come from all walks of life; rich and poor, housed and unhoused, gay and straight, saint and sinner! We believe that our diversity reflects the Kingdom of God on earth as it is in Heaven. Each year, hundreds of volunteers are coordinated by Rising Hope to help meet the needs of our community. Examples of programs and services that we offer are:

Food distribution
Clothing and basic needs for those experiencing homelessness
Emergency assistance and referrals
Drop-in center
Gaining Identification
Transportation
Job counseling
Advocacy

Thirty years of Rising Hope. And now, we are debt free.

We closed our anniversary celebration by ceremonially retiring the mortgage on Rising Hope’s building. Pastor Kameron Wilds, Pastor Emeritus Rev. Keary Kincannon, members of Rising Hope’s Board of Directors, and Rev. Brad Duty of the Virginia United Methodist Foundation and Development Company joined us for this special moment.

This milestone was made possible by years of generosity and commitment from people who believe in Rising Hope. We are grateful to everyone who helped us reach it. Being debt free lets us look to the future with greater freedom to focus our resources on welcoming and serving our neighbors.

The heart of Rising Hope is its people.

At our 30th anniversary celebration, Pastor Kameron Wilds and Director of Operations Heather Marshall presented the Legacy of Service Awards to volunteers Joe Stearman, Digna Vergara, and Berkley McKenzie. Their dedication is reflected in the countless ways they show up for our neighbors and help make Rising Hope a welcoming place.

We also heard a heartfelt speech from José Ramírez, Rising Hope’s Program Support Associate, about what it means to belong. José spoke to something at the center of this community: the importance of being welcomed and valued. His words are a reminder that the relationships we build are as meaningful as the services we provide.

Thank you to José, our award recipients, and everyone who brings care and compassion to Rising Hope each day.

We were honored to receive a Fairfax County proclamation recognizing Rising Hope’s 30th anniversary at today’s celebration.

Thank you to Board of Supervisors Chairman Chairman Jeff McKay and Franconia District Supervisor Rodney Lusk for joining us, and to Mount Vernon District Supervisor Dan Storck for sharing remarks by video.

Our relationships with Fairfax County leaders matter to the work we do every day. We are grateful for their partnership and for their recognition of the volunteers, staff, and community members who have made 30 years of Rising Hope possible.

Today, we celebrated 30 years of Rising Hope with the people who have made this community what it is.

Our anniversary brunch brought together neighbors, volunteers, staff, friends, and supporters to reflect on three decades of welcoming and serving people along the Route One corridor. We recognized Rising Hope’s founder and Pastor Emeritus, Keary Kincannon, whose vision began this work, and celebrated the leadership of Pastor Kameron Wilds and the team carrying it forward.

We were honored to welcome Diana Butler Bass as our keynote speaker and to hear her conversation with Pastor Wilds. We’re also grateful to New Hope Housing for joining us. Benjamin Kong, president of New Hope Housing’s Board of Directors, spoke about our shared commitment to our neighbors and announced a generous pledge of support from New Hope Housing as they wind down their operations.

Throughout the afternoon, we shared stories, enjoyed time together, and remembered the many people who have shaped Rising Hope over the years.

Thank you to everyone who joined us today and everyone who has been part of Rising Hope’s first 30 years. A special thank you to our friends at Christ Church for hosting us!

We are grateful for this community and excited for what comes next.
