The first day of the 244th session of the Virginia Annual Conference has begun! Del Ray UMC has joined over 1,000 churches across our Annual Conference in committing $2,000 to this year's special offering! This gift will go toward supporting two very important ministries. We are so thankful to be part of a church family that reaches far beyond our own walls.

The Laity Sunday belongs to our congregation as our lay members lead the worship service, sharing the gifts God has given them. Especially, this year, three speakers will share their stories of receiving and giving compassion. Come and be inspired by the faithful voices within our own community!

As over 2,000 clergy members, lay members, staff and guests gather for the 244th Session of The Virginia Annual Conference later this week, we pray that God be among us: might we perceive God's voice and not our own, may we be open to the movement of the Spirit, may be be changed and go forth once more committed in sharing God's love with all we meet. Back in early May, our Del Ray children assembled 213 hygiene kits and today they have been dropped off at one of the collection site in NoVA!
Just look at all those boxes of kits and flood buckets, and that is just ONE site! We are one of many United Methodist churches throughout the Virginia Annual Conference. Together, we are making a difference that none of us could make alone.
This is the beauty of being connected as the UMC!

At our monthly Family Worship on June 7, we learned the story of Esther through a paper puppet show. Esther used what God had given her, her position, her voice, and her courage, not for herself, but for the people who needed her most. She did not choose to be queen. God put her there at exactly the right time for exactly the right reason.
God does the same thing with each of us. Where has God placed you? In your family, your neighborhood, your school, your street, there is someone who needs you. Someone God put you there for.
As they reflected on the lesson, families wrote a short "brave letter," like Esther's petition to the king, addressed to someone in their life who needs encouragement or advocacy. They decorated the card and envelope, then sealed it with melting wax!

On May 31, we held our Intergenerational Worship (our tradition for the fifth Sunday) where our children and youth led the service! We had a lovely gathering this afternoon at The View!
Our conversation ranged from life updates, through the joy of a new grandbaby, concerns for our families, fun and tender memories of our loved ones in their final days, to old memories of how we have supported one another throughout our life journeys. It was full of love and laughter.
This time together served as a beautiful reminder of our belonging to one another, woven together by God.
