Forgiveness is one of the hardest things God asks us to do. Not because the hurt wasn't real. Not because the wound didn't leave a mark. But because forgiveness requires us to release what we would rather keep holding. The beautiful truth of the gospel is that God has shown us a kind of grace we could never earn. And when we truly understand how deeply we have been loved and forgiven, it begins to change the way we see others. 🙌

Forgiveness doesn't always happen in a moment. Sometimes it's a prayer repeated over and over. Sometimes it's a daily choice. Sometimes it's simply taking the next small step toward healing. But every step toward grace makes room for peace. And every step toward mercy reflects the heart of Christ. It's easy to admire the beauty of God's creation. A sunrise. A mountain view. A flower in bloom. Even the intricate design of something as simple as a kiwi. Our failures before the grace God has poured into our lives. ❤️

✝️ Read today's devotion --> Daughters of the King: Elizabeth and Mary

In the Word
"In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a town in Judah, and she … greeted Elizabeth" (Luke 1:39, 40).

Of the Word
When you’re “in over your head,” where do you turn? Do you seek advice from a parent, a friend, a pastor? Do you turn to God? Do you try to “tough it out” on your own?

When the angel Gabriel brought Mary the news that she would bear the long-awaited Messiah, He added a post script — her kinswoman Elizabeth, old and barren, would also bear a son. Somehow Mary made the 100-mile trip from Nazareth to the hill country of Judea to be with Elizabeth. When she arrived, Elizabeth’s unborn baby even jumped for joy! We can only imagine their conversations during the weeks that followed. No doubt they reviewed the messages of the angel, filled with awe and amazement as their bodies proved the truth of His words. Neither aged Elizabeth nor young Mary had to “go it alone.” Together they faced the future which God had planned for them. Like them, we treasure the loved ones God places around us, those who listen, reassure, encourage, and affirm. Through them, God shares His love with us.

Walking with my Lord
Dear Lord, thank You for the people who have mentored me through difficult circumstances. Shower me with Your love so I can share it with others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Maybe you’re debating right now. Church or no church today….

Remember, church attendance is not about us coming to church out of pressure of the law. We’re free not to attend. God won’t be angry at us or judge us. Christ’s sacrifice covered all our sins.

If that idea gives you comfort and peace today, then I bet it would only be more of a blessing to go ahead and in freedom come in for Bible study at 8:30am and Church at 10am.

It’s pretty much just more of that same freedom poured out on us through the Word and Sacrament.

We need to hear the Gospel every day, not just Sunday. Why? We quickly forget and start to think it’s all up to us again. Not just our tasks and responsibilities in life, but also even managing our good standing with God.

We falsely believe it’s up to us to manage that too! Wow are we good at heaping the pressure on ourselves. Such a bummer! Jesus says, “cast your care on me.” Not “cast your cares on yourself.” Think about that…

What about my care to be ok with God? Isn’t that my responsibility? Nope! Jesus took care of that too on the cross and in His glorious resurrection.

You and God? You’re good. So please don’t come to church expecting to make that better. If you come, come because He has already given us all, you too, perfect peace and fellowship with Him in Christ. It’s yours and mine by grace. That will let us come joyously thankful, not trying to earn.

Remember, we don’t go to heaven because we believe. We believe because heaven has already been won for us!
