The Flaming Evangelical Ministries was founded by Bishop Frederick Abu Sidique Koroma in January 1987 in response to a burning desire from the Lord to win the lost for Christ. In those early days before the Church started, Brother Abu as he was fondly called will always ask some brothers like Bro. Desmond Thomas, Bro. Donald Ken Leigh, Bro. Donald Opeyemi Nicol to name a few to join him in fasting
and prayer and go with him on retreat as the pregnancy to win the lost for Christ becomes more obvious until birth was given to a new born Flaming Baby. It is an indigenous Christian body that is committed to the propagation of the gospel of Jesus Christ in the barren areas of Sierra Leone. It is an independent and self supporting multi-faceted Ministry/Church. It started its first Church service in a small Classroom at the Prince of Wales Secondary School, Kingtom through the able assistance of the then Principal of the School, Mr. Horatio Nelson-Williams. The motto: of the Ministry/church is “….and how shall they hear without a preacher…….” Roms 10:13-15. This Church which was started at Prince of Wales through the special grace of God started expanding and in 31st December 1996 transferred to our complex at Ascension Town Road. It seats 1,700 persons per service. The Church is running two divine services on Sundays. Our Mission is reaching the lost at all cost through Crusades, Church planting, Media and Missions. Raising and equipping God’s end time army for exploits. Our main thrust is in the area of Deliverance where thousands of captives have been set free from bo***ge. Currently the Ministry/Church which started in that small Classroom in 1987 has expanded and planted many Churches across the nation and there are also Churches in London, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Sweden and the U.S.A. The Flaming Bible Centre was established in 1989 and has successfully trained hundreds of Church Workers and Pastors. The Ministry has a weekly TV programme called the “VOICE OF HOPE” which is reaching tens of thousands. There are also daily radio programmes that are aired in radio stations in Sierra Leone. To cater for the Educational standards of some students in a Christian setting, the Flaming Nursery & Preparatory School was established in 1991. The School offers sound teachings and instil moral discipline in the lives of the children. The present set up of our education system in Africa demands the establishment of more tertiary institutions to provide middle level training for some disadvantaged students. In this
regard the Flaming Vocational and Training Institute was established in 2003 where students learn about computing, tailoring, gara-tie & batik dyeing. The 8th of February 2004 saw the founder and President of Flaming Evangelical Ministries Bishop Abu Koroma been officially consecrated as the 1st Pentecostal Bishop in Sierra Leone. This ceremony was witnessed by prominent servants of God from the Pentecostal Fellowship, the Head of the Anglican Church in the Diocese of Freetown His lordship Bishop J.O.P. Lynch, His lordship Bishop Bonda, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Bo, The General Superintendent of the West African Methodist Church, and the Bishop of the United Methodist Church Bishop Joseph Humper. The Chief consecrator was Bishop Darlingston Johnson of the Bethel World Outreach Ministries International based in Maryland U.S.A. The ceremony was also graced by Heads of Government Institutions, Diplomats, government Ministers and Head of Para Church Organisation. Flaming Evangelical Ministries rely entirely on God through the faithful giving and generous gifts from our numerous members. The Ministry is a vibrant Ministry/Church and together with other Churches and Ministries are forcefully advancing the Kingdom of God in our beloved nation and beyond.
