🕌 WHERE HISTORY STILL SPEAKS
📍 Masjid al-Kufa, Iraq
There are places where history is not merely remembered — it is felt.
The Ahlul Bayt Servants Mission delegation from Sierra Leone had the honour of visiting Masjid al-Kufa, one of the most significant sacred sites in Islamic history and a place profoundly connected to the life and martyrdom of Amir al-Mu’minin, Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS).
Within this historic mosque stands the mihrab where Imam Ali (AS) was struck by the sword of Ibn Muljam, an event that led to the martyrdom of the Commander of the Faithful. His sacred resting place is in nearby Najaf al-Ashraf, but the memory of his final moments remains deeply engraved within Masjid al-Kufa.
The delegation also paid their respects at the mausoleums associated with Mukhtar al-Thaqafi and Hani ibn Urwah.
Hani ibn Urwah is remembered for his courage and loyalty in giving protection to Muslim ibn Aqil, the envoy of Imam al-Husayn (AS) to Kufa. For this stand of loyalty, Hani was ultimately killed by the forces of Ubaydullah ibn Ziyad.
Mukhtar al-Thaqafi, whose name became closely associated with seeking justice for the tragedy of Karbala, later led a movement in Kufa in which he pursued those responsible for the killing of Imam al-Husayn (AS) and his companions.
To stand in these places is to encounter a history marked by faith, loyalty, courage, betrayal, sacrifice, and martyrdom.
From the wounded mihrab of Imam Ali (AS), to the memory of Hani ibn Urwah's steadfastness, to the legacy of Mukhtar al-Thaqafi, Kufa carries powerful reminders of what it means to stand for truth when the cost is great.
For the Ahlul Bayt Servants Mission, this was not simply a visit to a historic site.
It was a moment to remember the sacrifices of those who came before us, reflect upon their devotion, and renew our own commitment to the path of Muhammad (SAW) and his purified Ahlul Bayt (AS).
🤲 May Allah keep our hearts firm upon truth, grant us the courage of the loyal servants of the Ahlul Bayt (AS), and allow us to carry their message with sincerity wherever we go.
