Hiram Mwangi, a graduate of Maseno University with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance with IT (Finance), is currently serving as an iServe Africa apprentice at Heartcare Community Church in Ruiru in his second year of ministry training.

Serving in the children's ministry has been one of the greatest highlights of his placement. Preparing lessons, teaching every Sunday, and walking alongside the children have taught him patience, humility, and love. "One of the things I deeply appreciate is their sense of accountability; they expect my life to reflect Christ, not only in words but in every area of life," he reflects.

His involvement in the pastoral team has also given him a deeper appreciation for the local church. "Serving within a healthy church has helped me see that ministry goes beyond Sunday gatherings, that it is about caring for God's people and faithfully leading them to Christ," he says. Through this experience, he has continued to grow as a leader and has learned the importance of listening well.

Hiram remains committed to keeping his eyes fixed on Christ.

What does servant leadership look like in everyday life for our apprentices?

For Alice Akinyi, it means walking alongside students at Christ Gift Academy in Mbita with compassion and purpose. Through counseling, home visits, first aid, and daily care, she is learning that serving others is an expression of Christ's love.

The Ministry Training Course has deepened her understanding of the gospel, strengthening her confidence that salvation is found in Christ alone and inspiring her to remain faithful to God's Word. Encouraged by the partnership of faithful supporters, Alice continues to grow in servant leadership, love for God's people, and a teachable spirit as she serves wherever God has placed her.

Utumishi Training Course

Our 16 Utumishi participants have been doing their last block for the past three months. They have been working through expository preaching of the book of Titus, receiving training in biblical counselling, and taking a deeper dive into church history.

Thank God with us for the many things taught in this block, and pray that as it comes to an end, the participants will faithfully apply what they have learned, living out God's Word in their homes, churches, workplaces, and communities, and that God will bring the right people to the 2026/2027 cohort, raising up men and women with teachable hearts and a desire to know Christ and make Him known.

We praise God for a team of 39 young men and women who have joined us for TransformD Plus and will be with us for the next two months as we disciple and point them to Christ.

These are university and college students, as well as some who are preparing to join institutions of higher learning. Our prayer is that this season will deepen their love for the Lord Jesus, establish them firmly in His Word, and equip them to live as faithful disciples wherever God places them.

Please join us in praying for them, that these weeks would be life-changing and bear lasting fruit for God's glory.

Today marks the end of our induction week.

We thank God for a refreshing and encouraging week at iServe Africa as we welcomed the incoming September 2026 team and introduced them to gospel ministry, partnership development, and what lies ahead in the next year (or more) of training.

Please pray that they will hold onto the Gospel, even as they look forward to starting their training in September.

Induction Day 2

Gospel ministry is never done alone.

Today, our incoming apprentices reflected on the biblical foundation of ministry fundraising. They learned practical ways to invite others to partner in the work of the gospel through prayer letters, calls, and regular updates.

We were reminded that partnership development is not just practical but an act of trusting God and inviting others into the joy of gospel ministry.

Please pray for the team as they begin inviting others to partner with them.

We are excited to welcome 22 young men and women to iServe Africa for their induction week as they prepare to join the apprenticeship programme in September.

Throughout this week, they will be introduced to iServe Africa, our vision, mission, and how we serve in different ministry contexts. They will be introduced to ministry fundraising and understand what gospel-centered ministry looks like and what servant leadership means.

Please pray that they will hear the Gospel preached throughout this week, as well as be equipped for the next year of ministry.

Apprentice Spotlight | Charity Kaluki

"The ministry here at iServe is more like a relay race. Each day, I am both a vessel being filled and a vessel being poured out for others. I have the privilege of growing in the knowledge of Christ and becoming increasingly grounded in godliness. At the same time, I am given many opportunities to invest in young believers who come after me.

Through Ministry Trainings for apprentices, Growth Groups, Staff Devotions, and mentorship sessions, among many other avenues, I continue to learn from those ahead of me. These gospel opportunities continue to challenge and convict me every day. An experience that teaches me humility to learn, relearn, and receive correction as I train in godliness.

However, as I continue to grow, I am reminded that a river does not keep healthy by hoarding its waters but by passing on. iServe gives me many opportunities to do so. Among them is helping with the TransformD Program, where I help teach and mentor ex-high schoolers, discipling them to be faithful disciples of Jesus. This
experience that has taught me to serve others in humility, to think less of myself, and to point them to Jesus alone.

In doing so, I am constantly reminded that growth and fruit in ministry come not from me but the Lord, who graciously works through his people."

"Show me a young man who has been taught the Word of God, and I will show you a man equipped to stand firm, lead well, and serve faithfully."

Our prayer for these young men and women is that the seeds of God's Word planted in their hearts will continue to bear fruit long after the program has ended.

May God raise a generation of young men and women who know Him, love Him, and live for His glory.
