NEW YEAR GREETINGS FROM THE PRAYERHOUSE

As the new year begins, many of us find ourselves reflecting on our goals and plans for the months ahead. We ask: What should we prioritise? Which path should we take?
While considering these questions myself, I found my thoughts turning to how Jesus faced one of the key moments in his life and ministry, as described in John 13:1:

‘Jesus knew that his hour had come to leave this world and return to his Father. He had loved his disciples during his ministry on earth, and now he loved them to the very end’

It’s deeply moving to see how, even at such a crucial point, Jesus focused on the people he loved and what awaited all of them.
While Jesus was preparing for what was ahead, with his mind set on heaven, his disciples were still thinking in more earthly terms. This difference is apparent in his conversation with Thomas in John 14:3-5:

When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going.” “No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

Up until then, their experiences had always involved physical journeys and practical actions, so it’s understandable that they struggled to comprehend what would come next. Were they heading back to Galilee to hide from Jesus’ enemies? Or staying somewhere in Jerusalem?
Then Jesus offered a completely new way of thinking about direction:

Jesus told him,” I am the way, the truth, and the life”’

When Jesus said, “You know where I am going,” the word ‘know’ here implies a deeper understanding — perceiving or seeing, not just having information. Interestingly, the Latin translation of the Greek word used is ‘_video_’. Jesus is essentially saying: Want to know where we’re headed, what’s coming next? Look at me. Consider the love and trust that has developed between us. ‘I am the way!’ The path forward is found in relationship.

I’m someone who likes concrete plans and objectives, but through my own prayer journey, I’ve realised how true Jesus’ words are. Having a plan is helpful, but looking back, my real journey has been about relationships — with Jesus and with those close to me.
Before you finalise your New Year’s resolutions, pause for a moment.

Allow yourself to ‘watch the video’ that focuses your attention on Jesus and those around you. You might be surprised by what unfolds!

We are excited as a PrayerHouse to be taking over responsibility for 'Pray for Schools Wales', which has been serving our schools in prayer for many years and we would love to invite you to our next online Prayer evening:

There will a short devotional followed by a brief overview of the future direction of PfSW. The main prayer time will cover two aspects:

- Reaching the unchurched young people in our schools
- Young people transitioning from Primary to Secondary School

These will be set in the context of Scripture Union and their heart for mission to the unchurched with a brief overview of some key resources for use within schools. Hope you can join us!

If you or anyone you know would like to be added to the 'Pray for Schools Wales' mailing list, please let us know.

“ Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.” Luke 22:56

Just as the women who followed Jesus rested on the Saturday after his crucifixion, we are praying that we too will rest as we trust and hope in the one who raised Jesus to life

“…… God will also count us as righteous if we believe in him, the one who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. He was handed over to die because of our sins, and he was raised to life to make us right with God.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭4‬:‭24‬-‭25‬ ‭NLT‬‬
