Disasters don’t just happen — they’re shaped by the systems around us. Risks grow when environmental, social, and governance factors are ignored.

1️⃣ Climate change
Rising temperatures are supercharging hazards — making floods, droughts, and storms more frequent, intense, and unpredictable.

2️⃣ Environmental degradation
When forests are cleared and wetlands drained, we lose nature’s first line of defence against floods, landslides, and coastal surges.

3️⃣ Poverty & inequality
Communities with fewer resources are often forced to live where hazards hit hardest – without safety nets, each disaster deepens inequality.

4️⃣ Poorly planned urban development
Rapid, unregulated growth leaves cities exposed – weak infrastructure and unsafe housing turn hazards into human catastrophes.

5️⃣ Weak governance
When coordination and accountability are missing, disaster prevention and response are ineffective.

የሶስት ቀናት የአየር ሁኔታ ትንበያ (ኢትዮጵያ ሜትሮሎጂ ኢንስቲትዩት)

በሚቀጥሉት ሶስት ቀናት በትግራይ፣ በአማራ፣ በአፋር ደቡባዊ ክፍሎች፣ በቤኒሻንጉል ጉሙዝ፣ በጋምቤላ፣ በደቡብ ምዕራብ ኢትዮጵያ፣ በኦሮሚያ ምዕራባዊ፣ ማዕከላዊ፣ ደቡባዊና ምስራቃዊ ክፍሎች፣ በማዕከላዊ ኢትዮጵያ፣ በሲዳማ እና በደቡብ ኢትዮጵያ ክልሎች ከቀላል እስከ ከባድ ዝናብ እንደሚኖር ይጠበቃል።

በተጨማሪም፣ በትግራይ፣ በአማራ፣ በአፋር፣ በኦሮሚያ ምዕራባዊና ማዕከላዊ ክፍሎች፣ በቤኒሻንጉል ጉሙዝ፣ በጋምቤላ፣ በደቡብ ምዕራብ ኢትዮጵያ፣ በደቡብ ኢትዮጵያ፣ በማዕከላዊ ኢትዮጵያ እና በሲዳማ ክልሎች በከፍተኛ ደረጃ (ከፍተኛው 10–1 በመቶ ውስጥ የሚመደብ) ከባድ እስከ እጅግ ከባድ ዝናብ እንደሚኖር ትንበያ ተሰጥቷል። ይህም በአማራ ምዕራባዊ ክፍሎች፣ በቤኒሻንጉል ጉሙዝ፣ በኦሮሚያ ምዕራባዊ ክፍሎች እና በጋምቤላ በተወሰኑ አካባቢዎች ድንገተኛ የጎርፍ መጥለቅለቅ (Flash Flood) ሊያስከትል ይችላል።

የኢፌዴሪ የአደጋ ስጋት ሥራ አመራር ኮሚሽን በተጠቀሱት አካባቢዎች የሚኖሩ ህብረተሰቦች፣ የአካባቢ አስተዳደሮች እና ሁሉም ተዛማጅ ተቋማት የኢትዮጵያ ሜትሮሎጂ ኢንስቲትዩት የሚያወጣቸውን ወቅታዊ መረጃዎች በመከታተል አስፈላጊ የቅድመ ጥንቃቄ እርምጃዎችን እንዲወስዱ ያሳስባል።

Three-day weather forecast (EMI)
Light to heavy rainfall is expected across Tigray, Amhara, southern portions of Afar, Benishangul-Gumuz, Gambella, Southwest Ethiopia, western, central, and parts of southern and eastern Oromia, Central Ethiopia, Sidama, and South Ethiopia regions for the coming three days. In addition, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall (ranking in the top 10–1%) is forecasted for Tigray, Amhara, Afar, western and central Oromia, Benishangul Gumuz, Gambella, Southwest Ethiopia, South Ethiopia, Central Ethiopia, and Sidama regions, which may result in flash flooding over pocket places of western Amhara, Benishangul Gumuz, western Oromia, and Gambella.

Today, we successfully conducted the Community Survey Validation Workshop for our project:

Community-led Landslide Resilience: Using the World Risk Poll to Strengthen Localised Early Warning Systems in the South Ethiopia Region.

The workshop brought together representatives from government institutions, community leaders, civil society organizations, and other key stakeholders to review and validate the findings of the community survey. Their valuable insights and recommendations will strengthen the evidence base for developing inclusive, community-led early warning systems and enhancing landslide resilience in vulnerable communities.

We sincerely thank all participants for their active engagement and commitment to building safer and more resilient communities.

This project is funded by the 's Register Foundation through the GNDR and is implemented by Light for Generation Ethiopia (LFG).

Together, we are strengthening community resilience, improving disaster preparedness, and working towards a future where no one is left behind.

በሚቀጥሉት ቀናት ለክረምት ዝናብ መፈጠር ምቹ ሁኔታን የሚፈጥሩ የሚቲዎሮሎጂ ገጽታዎች ይበልጥ እየተስፋፉና እየተጠናከሩ እንደሚሄዱ አሃዛዊ የትንበያ መረጃዎች ይጠቁማሉ፡፡ ከዚሁ ጋር በተያያዘም በደቡብ ምዕራብ፣ ምዕራብ፣ ሰሜን ምዕራብ፣ ሰሜን፣ መካከለኛው እና ምስራቅ የሀገሪቱ ክፍሎች ላይ ከቀላል እስከ ከባድ መጠን ያለው የዝናብ መጠንና ሥርጭት ይኖራቸዋል። በተጨማሪም በውሃ አካላትና በከባቢ አየር ውስጥ ከሚጠናከሩት የሚቲዎሮሎጂ ገጽታዎች ላይ በመነሳት በደቡብ ምዕራብ፣ ምዕራብ፣ ሰሜን ምዕራብ፣ ሰሜን ምስራቅ እና በመካከለኛዉ የሀገሪቱ አካባቢዎች ላይ በ24 ሠዓት ውስጥ ከ30 ሚ.ሜ በላይ ከባድ መጠን ያለው ዝናብ እንደሚያገኙ አሃዛዊ የትንበያ መረጃዎች ይጠቁማሉ፡፡

🔔 Research shows that HOW a disaster warning is phrased directly affects whether people act – and how quickly.

An effective warning message should always include these five essentials:
1️⃣ Source – Who is issuing the warning
2️⃣ Hazard & impacts – What the threat is and how it affects people
3️⃣ Location – The area at risk
4️⃣ Guidance – Clear actions to take
5️⃣ Time – When to act, or when the message expires

Getting these right can save lives by reducing hesitation and driving protective action.
