In recent months, we have observed a growing interest at the Edith Stein Archive in Gerda Walther and in the philosophical parallels between Edith Stein and Gerda Walther. We are therefore especially pleased that this important work can now become part of our library and research activities.

Gerda Walther belongs to the fascinating, yet still far too little-known women thinkers of the phenomenological circle. Her thought opens exciting perspectives on community, mysticism, and spiritual life — themes that are also of great importance for Edith Stein research.

We sincerely thank Prof. Calcagno for his support, his scholarly work, and his connection with our archive. 🤍📖

"Between crisis and maturity: Edith Stein and the integration of the person in consecrated life. ”

The lecture analyzes the current crisis of consecrated life in the light of Edith Stein’s philosophical-anthropological reflections. Starting from challenges such as fragile relationships, clericalism, and abuse of power, it argues that a renewal of the understanding of the person is necessary. At the center stands Stein’s relational anthropology, in which personal maturity is realized through self-giving and responsible freedom. Particular attention is given to empathy as the foundation of authentic community and a culture of mutual listening. The presentation thus proposes paths toward the formation of more mature and integrated persons in consecrated life.

Der Vortrag analysiert die gegenwärtige Krise des geweihten Lebens im Licht der philosophisch-anthropologischen Überlegungen Edith Steins. Ausgehend von Herausforderungen wie Beziehungsfragilität, Klerikalismus und Machtmissbrauch wird gezeigt, dass eine Erneuerung des Personverständnisses notwendig ist. Im Zentrum steht Steins relationale Anthropologie, in der sich personale Reife durch Selbsthingabe und verantwortliche Freiheit verwirklicht. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit gilt der Empathie als Grundlage für authentische Gemeinschaft und eine Kultur des gegenseitigen Zuhörens. Der Beitrag versteht sich als Impuls zur Bildung reifer und integrierter Personen im geweihten Leben.

📖✨ In recent months, the Edith Stein Archive has received numerous inquiries regarding the lecture by Dr. Monika Adamczyk-Enriquez (Edith-Stein-Archiv, Filozofii UIK), delivered during the 8th Biennial IASPES International Conference “Edith Stein in Dialogue: Phenomenology, Metaphysics, Theology” at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. (July 11–13, 2025).

We are therefore pleased to announce that the contribution has now been published online:

“Reconciliation of Metaphysics and Phenomenology? Edith Stein as a Bridge-Builder between Idealism and Realism”

The article was published in the Continental Philosophy Review and is based on the lecture originally presented at the conference of the International Association for the Study of the Philosophy of Edith Stein (IASPES). 🌍📚

Visit of the Karl Rahner Academy to the Edith Stein Archive

On May 8, we had the pleasure of welcoming a group from the Karl Rahner Academy to the Edith Stein Archive. Together with the Kölner Frauengeschichtsverein e.V., they followed the traces of Edith Stein in Cologne. The visit was organized by Marlene Tyrakowski.

The participants first visited the church Maria vom Frieden and afterwards came to our archive. Together we spoke about Edith Stein’s life and philosophical work, her time in the Carmel in Cologne and later in Echt, the story of the arrest of Edith and Rosa Stein, as well as the reception of her thought up to the present day.

We sincerely thank everyone for the wonderful visit, the inspiring conversations, and the shared remembrance of Edith Stein and her spiritual legacy. 🤍📚🕊️

We are already looking forward to welcoming the group again in June!

Besuch der Karl-Rahner-Akademie im Edith-Stein-Archiv

Am 8. Mai durften wir im Edith-Stein-Archiv eine Gruppe der Karl Rahner Akademie begrüßen, die gemeinsam mit dem Kölner Frauengeschichtsverein e.V. auf den Spuren von Edith Stein in Köln unterwegs war. Die Führung wurde von Marlene Tyrakowski organisiert.

Die Teilnehmenden besuchten zunächst die Kirche Maria vom Frieden und kamen anschließend in unser Archiv. Gemeinsam sprachen wir über Edith Steins Leben und philosophisches Werk, ihre Zeit im Karmel in Köln und später in Echt, über die Geschichte der Verhaftung Edith und Rosa Steins sowie über die Rezeption ihres Denkens bis in die Gegenwart.

Wir danken herzlich für den schönen Besuch, die interessierten Gespräche und das gemeinsame Erinnern an Edith Stein und ihr geistiges Erbe. 🤍📚🕊️

Umso mehr freuen wir uns bereits auf den nächsten Besuch im Juni!

International Scientific Cooperation 🌍🤝

The Edith Stein Archive is pleased about new perspectives for international academic exchange.

During a trip to Mexico in October 2025, Dr. Monika Adamczyk-Enriquez (Edith Stein Archive in Cologne) visited the Instituto de Filosofía of the Universidad Veracruzana in Xalapa. The conversations and meetings held there developed into a further academic exchange with the Institute and with the philosophical journal Stoa.

Stoa is an international philosophical journal of the Instituto de Filosofía of the Universidad Veracruzana, conceived as a forum for philosophical dialogue and scholarly discussion, especially within the Ibero-American context. (Link to the journal in the comments.)

We are very pleased that Dr. Monika Adamczyk-Enriquez (Edith Stein Archive in Cologne) has been appointed to the scientific committee of the journal. At the same time, this cooperation opens new perspectives for international exchange in phenomenology and Edith Stein research, as well as for future publication and cooperation projects.

Internationale wissenschaftliche Zusammenarbeit🌍🤝

Das Edith-Stein-Archiv freut sich über neue Perspektiven des internationalen wissenschaftlichen Austauschs.

Im Rahmen einer Reise nach Mexiko im Oktober 2025 besuchte Dr. Monika Adamczyk-Enriquez (Edith-Stein-Archiv zu Köln) das Instituto de Filosofía der Universidad Veracruzana in Xalapa. Aus den dort geführten Gesprächen entwickelte sich ein weiterer akademischer Austausch mit dem Institut sowie mit der philosophischen Zeitschrift Stoa.

Wir freuen uns sehr, dass Dr. Monika Adamczyk-Enriquez (Edith-Stein-Archiv zu Köln) in das wissenschaftliche Komitee der Zeitschrift aufgenommen wurde.
