EMBODIES
Mit der Ausstellung EMBODIES zeigt die Kunst-Station Sankt Peter eine ortspezifisch konzipierte, skulpturale und radikal minimale Intervention der Künstlerin Johanna von Monkiewitsch. Aus herkömmlichem Schaumstoff gefertigten monolithischen Quadern fügt sie eine immaterielle Schicht hinzu: Videoprojektionen von gefilmtem Sonnenlicht liegen wie ein weiteres skulpturales, aber organisch anmutendes, Element auf und zwischen den Körpern und sprechen eine emotionale Ebene der Wahrnehmung und Erinnerung an.
Der spätgotische Kirchenraum wird nicht nur zum Ausstellungsdisplay, sondern durch die natürlichen Licht- und Schattenverhältnisse auch zum Gehäuse für eine künstlerische Versuchsanordnung, die Arbeiten von Monkiewitschs zu einem Brennglas: EMBODIES lässt uns die Blicke schärfen, sowohl für die Details der Architektur, Flächen, Körper und Materialien im Raum, als auch die ortsspezifischen Lichtverhältnisse sowie die dialektischen Beziehungen von Licht und Material, Objekten und Erinnerungen, Verkörperlichung und Auflösung, Solidität und Immaterialität.

With the exhibition EMBODIES, the Kunst-Station Sankt Peter is presenting a site-specific, sculptural and a radical minimal intervention by Johanna von Monkiewitsch. The artist adds an immaterial layer to monolithic blocks made of conventional foam: Video projections of sunlight are cast onto and between the blocks, serving as an additional sculptural element, which seems also organic and addresses an emotional level of perception and memory.
The interior of the late Gothic church thus serves not only as an exhibition space but also, tue to it’s specific lighting and spatial conditions, as a container for an artistic experiment, while the works of von Monkiewitsch become a burning glass of sorts. EMBODIES helps us sharpen our perception for the details of the architecture and the surfaces, bodies, and materials within the space, as well as for the specific lighting conditions of the architecture and the dialectical relationships between light and material, objects and memories, embodiment and dissolution, solidity and immateriality.
