It is easy to say you don't idolize anyone, but what about the persona you think you have to be? We often chase a manufactured image rather than our true selves. Take a moment to consider if you are living for your potential or for an expectation.

Covenant Members, our next Membership Meeting is coming up on October 29.

We’ll be looking back at the past quarter of ministry and finances, sharing updates on our building and property projects, and celebrating the induction of Loammi Sepulveda, Reuben Kikkert, and Mandi Driedger into membership.

Childcare will be provided for parents.

Please make plans to join us so we can celebrate what God has been doing, hear what’s ahead, and ensure we have quorum for the meeting.

We’re kicking off our Jonah series this Sunday, November 1st! We won’t be filming an online version for the next four weeks. I’m away for vacation and our national conference, and Advent is coming up, so we’re giving our tech team some breathing room before the busiest season of the year. Audio will still be captured for the podcast and radio. If you can, join us in person. Kids’ program, Midnight Sun coffee, and great community.

What an incredible response from our community this past Thanksgiving weekend.

Together, we collected 160 crates of food and raised just under $1,000 in cash donations for the Whitehorse Food Bank.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, helped load the bus, and made this year’s Stuff the Bus event possible. Your generosity will have a real impact on people in our city over the coming months.

We’re so grateful for everyone who came together to care for our community.

October is the month in the calendar that Canadians set aside to celebrate all that they are grateful for. At our staff meeting this week we shared that we are thankful for Jesus and the price that he paid for our salvation, for family, for our churches and their pastors, among many other things.

I want to share an important thing I learned about our Fellowship in 1990 through a very personal story.

Marilyn and I were serving in youth ministry at Wortley Baptist in London, ON and were a bit tired after a busy season of ministry so we decided to take a last-minute trip to the Caribbean just after Easter. Our daughter, Katelyn, was 11 months old at the time.

We arrived in Freeport, Bahamas at suppertime so we went to a nearby Pizza Hut from the airport. We ate a great cheese pizza. But that night Marilyn got a stomach-ache. We thought it was the cheese. It wasn’t. The pain subsided and came back over the next couple of days. The night before we were to leave, I had to get her to the hospital. At 3:00am I got her to a very modest “M.A.S.H.” unit-type hospital. Our baby was dehydrating as Marilyn was struggling to breastfeed her. I had to leave Marilyn for a brief spell while trying to find something with which to hydrate Katelyn. Leaving Marilyn at that moment was, hands down, the most fearful I’ve ever been in my life.

Most of us have someone we admire, whether it’s a pop star, an athlete, a podcaster, or the person we’re trying to become. This week, in the final message of our IDOLS series, we’re looking at the Idol of Idols and the personas we build for ourselves.

The lie is that a persona can tell us who we should become, but God already gave us the Person to follow. Paul’s letter to the Philippians points us to Him, Jesus Christ, who humbled Himself and was given the name above every name.

This Sunday we’ll learn to seek the Eternal King over earthly personas. Join us as we wrap up IDOLS: Uncovering Misplaced Worship.
