We would LOVE your help with our Annual Christmas Kettle Campaign. We are in desperate need for volunteers. If you would like to volunteer, please call/text our Christmas Kettle Coordinator, Janet Ens at 867-335-0571 or email at [email protected]. We have many shifts that need to be filled.

Our Christmas kettles go to support The Share the Spirit Program in the Yukon run by the Whitehorse Firefighters' Charitable Society and The Salvation Army Community and Family Services programs that are ran throughout the year. Together we can make a difference in the lives of many individuals!

Each year on the first Friday in June, people participate in National Doughnut or Donut Day, celebrating the doughnut and honoring the Salvation Army Lassies who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I.

In 1917, the original “Salvation Army Doughnut” was first served by the brave volunteers of The Salvation Army. They went to the front lines of Europe during World War I and provided "home-cooked" food as a morale booster to the troops.

The doughnuts were often cooked in oil inside the metal helmets of American soldiers. American infantrymen were then commonly called “doughboys.”

This year, in recognition of Donut Day, Major Glenda McKenzie of The Salvation Army distributed donuts to first responders in the community: firefighters, EMS and RCMP.

Throughout this month we will be sharing each of the "calls for justice" meant for all Canadians from the "Reclaiming Power and Place: The Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls."⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The report states that this demonstrates that every person has a role in combatting violence against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA people. The report encourages every Canadian "to consider how they can give life to these Calls for Justice."⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
