Today we celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi!

At St. Joseph the Worker, our Franciscan identity takes shape in the way we pray, welcome, accompany, and serve one another. Francis invites us to encounter Christ in the Gospel, in the Eucharist, in people experiencing poverty or exclusion, and in the everyday life of our community. Join us as we celebrate his feast at all our Sunday liturgies today.

As we give thanks for Francis and for the friars who walk alongside our parish, let us each choose one small way to live his example this week.

Join us this afternoon as we remember St. Francis.

Our Transitus service begins today at 4:30 p.m., followed by Mass. Together, we will prayerfully remember Francis’s passage into eternal life and give thanks for the witness of a life shaped by love for Christ. Whether this is a familiar tradition or your first experience of the Transitus, you are warmly welcome.

Our celebration of the Feast of St. Francis continues at all Sunday liturgies. May this weekend renew our desire to follow Jesus with the humility, compassion, and generosity that Francis lived.

Bring your animal companions for a blessing!

Join us on Sunday, October 4, at 3:30 p.m. for our Blessing of the Animals.
As we celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, we give thanks for the animals who bring companionship and joy to our lives. Francis’s love for all God’s creatures reminds us to receive creation with gratitude and care for it with tenderness. Bring your pets and gather with our parish community for this special celebration. Please keep animals safely leashed or in suitable carriers.

What can St. Francis teach us about living our faith?

Francis’s love for Jesus shaped how he saw the world: people became brothers and sisters, creation revealed God’s goodness, and ordinary encounters became opportunities to love and serve. His example continues to invite us to listen with humility, welcome those who are overlooked, care for creation, and bring peace into our relationships.

As we deepen our parish focus on faith formation, Francis reminds us that growing in faith changes how we live.

Join us for the Transitus on Saturday, October 3, at 4:30 p.m., followed by Mass. We will celebrate the Feast of St. Francis at all Sunday liturgies, including Saturday evening Mass .

What is the Transitus of St. Francis?

The word transitus means “passing” or “passage.” Each year on the evening of October 3, the Franciscan family remembers St. Francis’s passage from earthly life into eternal life. Through prayer and remembrance, we reflect on his trust in God and the Gospel he sought to live. This gathering invites us to consider how we, too, can place our lives in God’s hands and follow Jesus with open hearts.

The Transitus service will be followed by Mass as we begin our celebration of the Feast of St. Francis.

Our relationship with Christ continues to grow throughout our lives—through prayer, questions, Scripture, the sacraments, and the people we encounter.

This year at St. Joseph the Worker, we are deepening our focus on faith formation through Belonging, Accompaniment, Encounter, and Mission. Through this series, we’ll explore our Catholic faith and discover simple ways to live it each day. Whether you are exploring faith, returning after time away, or have been part of the parish for years, you are invited to grow with us.

What small step could you take this week? Pray with the Sunday Gospel, make time for quiet, or begin a conversation about faith.
