We've been having some great discussions at Pub Theology!

Tonight, we're talking about Fear, Risk & Courage.

What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Fear is a strange thing. Sometimes it protects the things we love. Other times, it keeps us from the things we long for.

What's the biggest risk you've ever taken? Is there a road you wish you'd travelled, or are glad you didn't? What do our fears reveal about what matters most to us? And how do we know when something is worth the risk?

We do NOT promise answers...just good conversation with interesting people! We hope you'll join us.

Join us at Nexus this morning!

Why are we so drawn to things that promise us security and certainty? And why is the Bible so insistent on warning us about idols?

This morning, as we continue our series The Art of Reading a Strange Book, Karla will take us to the story of the golden calf and explore what it might have to say about our own very human desire for something solid to hold onto.

We'll also celebrate Eucharist together, followed by Soup Sunday!

Plan to stay after the service for a delicious bowl of homemade soup and some good conversation. If possible, bring your own bowl and spoon to help us cut down on waste.

Today promises to be an interesting one at Nexus!

Our theme for this season is The Strange Art of Believing in a Beautiful and Terrible World. And if we're going to explore what it means to hold on to faith in a world that is both beautiful AND terrible, we simply can't avoid the question of suffering.
If you're someone who has ever struggled with your faith, chances are you've wrestled with this one. How do we make sense of so much pain and injustice in a world created by a good and loving God?

This morning, Brad is tackling one of the biggest and most difficult questions of faith: the problem of suffering and evil. And as we've come to expect from Brad, he won't be offering tidy explanations or easy answers. Instead, he'll invite us to wrestle honestly with the questions, challenge some familiar assumptions, and consider what faith might look like in the face of suffering.

We'd love to have you join us this morning!

Happy Thanksgiving weekend! If you are around, we hope you'll join us today.

This morning, we'll continue exploring how to read the Bible well, looking at ancient stories that reveal a God of mercy, love, and freedom. We'll also hear the rather intriguing story of The Great Pear Tree Theft!

We're also trying something new: Our segment, 3 Questions, will help us get to know the people in our community a little better. If you're game to be interviewed, put your name in the bag when you arrive!

Pub Theology Starts Tonight!

Fifteen years ago, Pub Theology was a place where we could talk about things that didn’t always feel easy, or even safe, to talk about in church. Doubts. Questions. Disagreements. Things we weren’t quite sure we were allowed to say out loud.

A lot has changed since then.

Conversations that once felt edgy at Nexus are now ones we have pretty openly. So as we bring Pub Theology back, we’ve been wondering:

What are the conversations we’re NOT having now?

Tonight, we’re starting there with:
WHAT ARE WE ALLOWED TO TALK ABOUT?

Why do some subjects feel difficult to talk about, even with people we know and trust?
Can you enjoy someone while thinking they’re wrong about something important?
Where can you ask an honest question without having to prove you’re a good person first?
And what would you love to understand better, if you could ask without having to defend a position?
Then we want to hear from you: What SHOULD we be talking about at Pub Theology? Because we’d love for your answers to help shape where we go next.

You don’t need to be a theologian. You don’t need to have your opinions figured out. And you definitely don’t need to agree.
Come have a drink, bring your questions, and help us kick off the Pub Theology revival.

TONIGHT | 7:30–9:00 PM
Malt & Barley Public House
1187 Fischer-Hallman Rd., Kitchener

Come grab a drink and join the conversation.

Friends, we’ve spent the last few weeks happily hunkered down in the opening chapters of Genesis. At this pace, we should make it through the Bible sometime around 2050.

So this Sunday, we’re picking up the pace.

Brad will take us on a soaring tour across Scripture, exploring what happens when the Bible seems to talk back to itself. From questions of belonging and suffering to violence and the temperament of God, we’ll encounter a Bible that is wilder, wiser, and far less tidy than we sometimes give it credit for.

We’ll also be introducing a new Sunday morning segment designed to help us discover a little more about the people who make up this wonderfully interesting Nexus community. You never quite know who you might hear from.

Join us Sunday at 10am at St. Andrew’s Church for good music, good people, and good conversation.
