Westheights Community — We’d love your input! 💬

Our church board has been exploring what’s next for Westheights, and we want to hear from you! We’ve drafted four proposed pillars to help shape our vision for the future, and your feedback will help guide our next steps as a church community.

Halloween for Hunger right around the corner! 🎃🥫 This Saturday, volunteers of all ages are needed for this fun and community-centred event! Sign up as a family, with some friends, or on your own! After the food collection, come on back to the church for treats.

If you can join us, please sign up using the form at events.westheights.org or email [email protected] to let us know you’re in.

Don’t forget to fill a bag of non-perishable food yourself and drop it off any Sunday in October, or on the night of Halloween for Hunger! In addition, we are hosting a virtual food drive at https://foodbank.donorsupport.co/-/NGWNVKTT

What an excellent opportunity to get to know people at Westheights, meet our neighbours, and serve the real needs of people in our community by collecting non-perishable food!

Nicole is all ready for Halloween for Hunger this Saturday at 6pm! 👩‍🔬💥 Are you?

Let’s work together to support The Food Bank of Waterloo Region to help families experiencing food insecurity in our neighbourhoods - and have fun doing it! 🎃🥫🍂Volunteers are still needed to join teams going door to door collecting donations, and to pack up the donations in the (warm) Westheights foyer. Join us for snacks afterwards too!

You Asked For It! 💭

We’re in a sermon series called You Asked for It! where Pastor Josh is exploring some of the questions you’ve asked him.

During the series, we’ll be using text message polls to hear from you. During the service, you’ll be given a keyword to text to 365-387-3460, along with four response options. Your responses are anonymous and will be displayed during the sermon.

This series connects with our 2024 series, The Doubts We Have, which explored questions and doubts surrounding faith. If you missed it or would like to revisit it, you can find the teaching collected in our YouTube playlist.

Calling all seniors: Tuesday October 27 at 1:30pm

Vivian Wikkerink is coming to speak with us about scams and scammers. Visit events.westheights.org to sign up so Sandy and Sharon know to expect you.

We have a social group for the seniors of our church, men, women, couples, singles. A time to get together and socialize. Getting to know other seniors in the church.

The meetings are held the last Tuesday of every month from 1:30 to 3:30pm. We will be meeting in the Great Room in the Church’s lower level. Accessibility note: There is no lift to go downstairs, but you can park behind the church and enter through the back door.

A $5.00 donation per person would be appreciated to defray the cost of treats / snacks / speakers / special events, etc.

Westheights Women’s Retreat

Who: ALL WOMEN OF WESTHEIGHTS 🙋‍♀️

What: Rest and relaxation, building friendships and growing our faith…. all together at our annual women’s retreat.

When: Friday, November 27th to Saturday, November 28th

Where: Hidden Acres Camp & Retreat Centre (Shakespeare, Ontario)

Cost: Varies depending on stay:

Cost for the all-inclusive overnight retreat: $140.

Daytime option (excluding the overnight stay): $105.

Students and those who could benefit from a subsidy: $75.

Why should people participate?

Life is busy, and meaningful connection doesn’t always happen on Sunday mornings. Our Women’s Retreat is an opportunity to step away from the usual pace of life, spend time with other women, and grow together through worship, learning, laughter, and conversation. We’d love for you to join us for a weekend of rest, encouragement, and community. ☕️🍂📚

Our 20th Halloween for Hunger is coming up in 9 days! We still need some volunteers to help collect food donations! 🎃🥫🍂

If you’re available on Saturday, October 31st , we’d love your help as a Food Collector. You’ll go out in small groups into the neighbourhood around Westheights to pick up food donations from our neighbours. It’s a fun, meaningful way to serve our community (you can even trick or treat as you go!).

Every item collected helps stock local food bank shelves, and your help ensures that no donation gets missed.

Our 20th Halloween for Hunger is just around the corner, and we need your help! 🎃 🍂 🥫

On Saturday, October 31st teams of Westheights folks will go door-to-door collecting food donations for the Food Bank of Waterloo Region. What an excellent opportunity to get to know people at Westheights, meet our neighbours, and serve the real needs of people in our community by collecting non-perishable food!

To make Halloween for Hunger run we need a large number of volunteers of all ages so sign up in the foyer on Sunday or by the online form at events.westheights.org

We need:

👟 4 Flyer Delivers – Delivering flyers & bags to a set route of homes (Oct 24-29)

🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 Minimum 30 Food Collectors to go door-to-door collecting the food bags

🚘 1 Driver (with vehicles) to collect food from the Food Collection Teams

📦 15 Food Receivers who will hang out at the church, helping to unload cars and box up donated food

🍪 2 Treat Providers – people who would be willing to donate treats for the hungry volunteers

🧸 4 borrowed children’s wagons for the evening

Once again, volunteers of all ages are needed for this fun and community-centred event! Sign up as a family, with some friends, or on your own! After the food collection, come on back to the church for treats.

Choose Your Own Adventure Women’s Night ✨ is an evening designed to help women connect, relax, and enjoy one another’s company in a way that fits their interests. Choose from several gatherings hosted in the homes of women from our church, whether that’s crafting, baking, playing games, enjoying snacks and conversation, or getting some fresh air. You’ll spend the evening building friendships and community together.

The adventures to choose from include:

🧶 Creative Corner (Bring your own craft, knitting, quilting, scrapbooking, colouring, or project.)

🍪 Bake and Take (Women bake together and take treats home.)

☕️ Coffee, Snacks & Social (For women who simply want to connect and chat.)

♟️ Game On! (Bring your favourite board or card game and have some fun.)

🍂 Walk and Talk (Weather permitting – a neighbourhood walk followed by dessert.)

Where: In various homes of other women

When: Friday, October 23rd. 7:00pm

Cost: Cost varies depending on the adventure you choose. From free to maybe taking a few snacks or baking supplies.

Why should people attend?
An evening of connection, laughter, and fun as you choose the adventure that fits you best! Whether you love creating, baking, playing games, or simply sitting and visiting, there’s an adventure designed for you. Come as you are, meet someone new, deepen existing friendships, and leave encouraged and refreshed.

We are doing the “What are you thankful for” cards again for Thanksgiving Sunday. 🍂 You’ll find one on your chair — write down what you’re thankful for, and after service, stick it on the foyer brown wall using the provided painter’s tape! It’s a great way to see all the different ways our community is thankful this season. Check out our wall from last year - so awesome! 🍁
