Anyone looking an excuse to wander around IKEA?

🛍️ Help us “Stuff the Bin” at IKEA Edmonton!

WINGS is proud to be part of “Stuff the Bin”, a special two-day donation drive happening at IKEA Edmonton on August 15 & 16 from 10am to 5pm—and we’re calling on our amazing community to get involved!

This event is organized by the Safe Futures YEG collective in partnership with IKEA Edmonton, bringing together local shelters (including WINGS) to collect essential household and personal items for families fleeing domestic violence.

Together, we’re working to ensure every family has what they need to rebuild with safety, dignity, and hope.

💙 Here’s how you can support WINGS and our shelter partners:

1. Shop & Donate at IKEA (Aug 15 & 16, 10am–5pm):

Come shop at IKEA Edmonton and stop by our donation area! WINGS staff and volunteers will be on site with a wish list of our most-needed items—like bedding, kitchenware, personal care products, and more.

Pick up a few extra items as you shop and drop them off on your way out. Every donation makes a difference.

2. Donate Online:

Can’t make it in person? You can still support this initiative by giving online at www.safefuturesyeg.ca/stuffthebin or by clicking the Link Tree in our Instagram bio.

All funds raised will be shared equally among the participating shelters.

3. Help Us Spread the Word:

Share this post with your friends and followers! Every share helps raise awareness and brings more support to families in need.

Let’s come together as a community to stuff the bin—and fill lives with hope. 💜

🚨ANNOUNCEMENT: New Pilot Project Launched to Support Women in Crisis

WINGS is proud to be part of a new regional initiative launched on July 2nd that improves how people experiencing domestic violence can access shelter and support.

In collaboration with .211.ca and other Edmonton-area shelters, this pilot allows individuals to call just one number — 211 — to be connected to available beds and resources across the region.

Instead of making multiple calls while in crisis, people fleeing violence can now access help faster and more compassionately — with one call, one connection, and quicker access to safety.

💛 “This pilot is about removing barriers, not adding them,” says Candace Smallwood, Executive Director of WINGS. “It reflects everything we stand for: compassion, dignity, and timely access to safety.”

This project brings together WIN House, A Safe Place, Catholic Social Services, Sage Seniors Safe House, The Jessica Martel Memorial Foundation, and WINGS, with coordination through 211 Alberta.

Together, we’re building a more connected, compassionate response for those fleeing violence.

📞 If you or someone you know needs support fleeing domestic violence, call 211. Support is available 24/7.
