At the beginning of June, Fidelias visited the MCC Meat Cannery and Thrift Shop in New Hamburg. Thank you to Dylan Yantzi (Cannery Manager) and Christa Ge**er (Thrift Shop) at MCC Ontario for taking time in their day for our learning and tour!

Each canning day, raw chicken is prepared, sealed, pressure-cooked, cooled, labelled and packed for shipment. Volunteers play a vital role in ensuring that each can is handled with care before it reaches families in need. The New Hamburg facility has the capacity to produce up to 50,000–60,000 cans each year.

Shipments of shelf-stable meat have been sent to countries such as Chad, Ukraine, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Zambia, and Cuba. Local partnerships have also included The Food Bank of Waterloo Region to supply protein to local families facing rising food insecurity.

Drawing from Jeremiah 17 and Psalm 92, this sermon reflects on the deep roots of faith that sustain God’s people through the droughts and losses of life. It reminds us that fruitfulness in old age is found not in productivity or strength, but in wisdom, prayer, presence, and enduring trust in God. Even in seasons of weakness and uncertainty, those planted by the living water of God’s faithfulness continue to bear witness that “the Lord is my rock.”

Although God's work in us often unfolds more slowly than we would like, those who trust deeply in God's faithfulness become like well-rooted trees, continuing to bear fruit even in old age.

This Sunday, we welcome Solomon Schlegel as our guest speaker. When Solomon finished a business degree he wanted to do more than climb the corporate ladder and was drawn to MEDA’s vision of creating business solutions to poverty. He delights in telling stories of ‘kingdom economics.’

After the service we will have a Spring Potluck. Everyone welcome. Please join us in the basement, even if you didn’t bring any food. There will be plenty to share.

Today we acknowledge National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirited People. We honour those who never made it home. Those who should still be here and with their families today.

We encourage you to visit the Red Dress Day Art Exhibit and Call 30 Activity happening at Conrad Grebel.

Art Exhibit: May 2 - 16
Call 30: May 7 and 14

Conrad Grebel University College
140 Westmount Road North, Waterloo

Red Dress Day, which is recognized on May 5, brings awareness to missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls. In partnership with Conrad Grebel University College, MCC is featuring artwork that illustrates factors contributing to the criminalization and harm of Indigenous women. Visit the art exhibit between May 2 and 16. As part of this event, MCC is hosting two Call 30 activities on May 7 and May 14, which will deepen your understanding of why Red Dress Day matters and why 50% of women in Ontario prisons are Indigenous. "What Our Lord Saw from the Cross" by James Tissot

Good Friday is a time of sorrow and mourning, a time of dashed dreams, disorientation, and confusion. Easter Sunday is filled with the unimagined joy and renewed hope. It is a time of resurrection and new life.
Holy Saturday is the uncomfortable time in between these two significant days. Much of our lives is spent in Holy Saturday time, caught between sorrow and joy; between grief and renewed hope.

May the Spirit of Christ sustain you during your Holy Saturday,
as you wait for the promise of resurrection joy.
We look forward to coming together again on Easter morning.
