With the purpose of promoting awareness, education, and the protection of older persons, the Universal Caleb Group carried out the “Be Aware of the Signs” event, reinforcing the importance of recognizing the warning signs of elder abuse and neglect.
The event featured a special lecture by Superintendent Makola, who spoke about the different forms of violence that can affect older persons and the importance of identifying early signs that may indicate they are at risk.
Participants learned that elder abuse can take many forms, including abandonment, neglect, emotional and psychological abuse, financial exploitation, and physical violence. The event highlighted that warning signs such as sudden behavioral changes, social withdrawal, fear, anxiety, depression, poor living conditions, and unexplained injuries should never be overlooked.
Through informative discussions and community engagement, the event sought not only to educate but also to inspire action. Attendees were encouraged to become advocates for the well-being of older persons by promoting respect, compassion, dignity, and the protection of their rights.
